Harry/Posting on this board
I have been a Premier Member for some time now. I believe that my membership with Notary Rotary is money well spent, and plan to continue my membership. I also enjoy the many informative and professional postings, the revelent questions, and the responses from those who know. I read this board daily, and post occasionally. However this past several days this board has been clogged with trash.
I recommend that anyone be allowed to read this board, but ONLY legitimate non-anonymous (paying?) members be allowed to post. Anonymity when posting serves no one, but fools and trolls. I advertise here! I want people to find me! If some creep wants to speak out anonymously let them do it somewhere else. Start there own blog for fools. This is (should be) a place for professionals.

I agree , I would like to see something done about all the trash in the last few weeks also the non related posts that should be on the other forum.

Re: The problem is NOT from the anonymous posters,
but rather from the posters who post, after post, after post -- all the while egging the abuse to continue -- and it DOES continue because of the few that can't stand to just ignore the posts, but instead have to respond.

Somebody, I don't remember who, started the trend ...
... of _always_ linking one's Profile to one's Posts. I think it is a great idea, and would like to see it be mandatory.
The only way to slow down the idiots and socially unacceptable behavior is to _not respond_ to Posts that serve no purpose. Responding feeds the offender's ego.
Visiting the Profile of a poster is often illuminating. Those with linked Sites are often hilarious. Unintentionally so, but still amusing.

Linking to profile may discourage legit questions/opinions
I prefer to post without linking to my profile. I would be reluctant to post legitimate questions if they were linked to my profile, for fear someone would say, "Oh my gosh, she doesn't know THAT?" and I would lose potential clients.
And I'm not talking about questions like "How do I get business?" or "What goes in the venue block?" either.

I concur that linking to a profile not be required I have
been a premier member since NOTROT first existed and a number of "regulars" know who I am. IMO I have been , and will continue, to be a "real poster" and hope that I have made some valuable contribution. For a number of reasons, however, I do not choose to link my profile and personal info on a "public board" So long as Harry can identify who posts here, that should be enough protection to keep egregious (sp?) junk off of the board. Most of the recent garbage was the result of a misunderstanding by a new poster who has apologized on the "liesure Forum. Other than a little entertainment, there was no real harm. I believe that this board would be of much less value to the members if the whole world had access to names, phone #s, and home addresses etc. of anyone who chose to have their say.

I Completely Disagree...
...as I've maintained for years the only way to clean up the messes some people leave on message boards is to bring accountability for what they post by placing their real names next to their words. Linking posts to one's public profile makes perfect sense. If someone is truly IN this business & are willing to advertize their name/contact information under "Find a Notary", they should be more than willing to communicate with fellow members in a like manner. In "real life" face to face conversations (unless you're in a confessional with a Catholic priest) you KNOW who you're talking to in a professional business environment. These forums shouldn't be any different. JMO!

As a non=linker, I agree with Bob.
I used to link, but life is just much simpler without the linking-to-profile.

Re: I concur that linking to a profile not be required I have
Well Bob, I personally am not ashamed of what I do, or what I think. I advertise on this site. I want the "whole world" to know who I am, and what my values are. I try every day to get more business. Since you say: paraphrase: “All here know me, but I don’t want the world to know who I am, or what I think.” What? If you’re in business, you’re in business… How could this board be of less value, or “if the whole world has access to your information” be detrimental? I’d think it a plus! No one MAKES anyone post on this board. If someone chooses to do so they should NOT remain anonymous!

Les, I too am proud of what I do and what I think.
If someone needs of the professional services of a NSA in my area , I am available. If someone has a problem with somehing I say here, they can reply on the board or by PM or contact Harry, That is not the same as anyone surfng the net and wandering on to NOTROT. Back on the old NASA board, we once had some wacko wander in thinking we were part of the Space Administration and worrried about little green men or something. If someone takes offense at something said here, they can complain to Harry. That is not the same as harrasing the person by phone or e-mail or , worse yet, showing up at their front door. Again, I agree that the old system of anyone in the world being able to post here was a bad idea. Harry does a good job of monitoring . It IS his store.

Re: Me too.
There are many non-linkers who post to this site and who have valuable information to contribute. Each, I'm sure, has his/her own reasons as to why they don't link. Their desire not to link may outweigh their desire to state their opinions on this board. If you want to limit the contributions to those who you can easily identify just to to avoid the occasional troll, you lose their input as a consequence.
One valid reason not to link is that, with all of the different laws and practices in the various states, posts can easily be misunderstood. This can lead to unfavorable and unwanted attention whether one is right or wrong, and whether or not one is a jerk.

Re: Me too.
Another reason is that many of us work from our homes. Some (especially the women) may have legitimate reasons for not wanting to post their home addresses. These days you can successfully be in business without a brick and mortar address publicly listed.
