Hiring and paying office help

I need to hire someone to help me keep organized and work maybe 6 hours a week. Things like doing my invoicing, and inputting my office expenses in Quickbooks. This person can work out of their home. I'm working 6 days and just don't have the time to do somethings properly, and I don't want to get behind, so I think this may be the way to go.

What is the hourly wage you pay someone for this type of service?

to make it worth THEIR while...and to insure that you get QUALITY help...you must be prepared to pay an acceptable wage (and that can ONLY be determined by you and the wages in your area.) My spousal unit was doing the same type of thing for a residential architect on a one or twice a week basis (his books, and other duties like watching out for ways to save him money on phone etc)...and she was making $20.00 per hour. That was in Las Vegas and that was ABOUT the going rate. Hope that give you a place to start with. Good Luck

Lisa, I did that and paid $8/hour

and I was paying someone $8/hour and 1099 her, as an independent contractor.
She was experienced and proficient, and accepted the $8/hour because she enjoyed the freedom of setting her own hours and not having any expenses related to travel.
She worked 5-10 hours per week, and I hated letting her go when the bottom fell out here.
I found her through the classifieds and included the fee I was willing to pay.
There are alot of Mom's out there not wanting to go back to work FT, and who can work while their children are napping/home sick/etc., and just looking for a little "pin money".
I provided all the tools and supplies.

What About a Virtual Assistant?

I recently was talking to a friend of mine who has a home-based business. She's hired a Virtual Assistant to help her. VA can do anything you can think of including helping someone build a business. Visit: Guru.com or FreeAgent.com to learn more.

If you're looking for someone to do a couple of hours of filing or simple bookkeeping, why not hire a high school or college student?

I think you will find very significant differences in the going rate in different geographic areas. Craigslist.com is probably a very good idea. Also, you could check want ads in your local papers.

I've hired someone!

Thanks to all that have applied. I've hired someone but if it doesn't work out, I'll keep everyone that emailed me in mind.
