Its interesting to me that some companies 1099 does not match the notary's records of what was paid out. Often the notary is short but trying to collect over due payments. Perhaps this will help if they know the IRS is taking a closer look at the independent contrator status and perhaps both parites records. This may mean a closer look at your taxes and records if there are discrepencies.

Actually the companies aren't trying to pad their books. It depends on the accounting system the company is using ie: Accrual or Cash basis. If it's an accrual system being used the fees count when they receive the bill, not when they actually pay you. Sometimes they forget to adjust the 1099 to the actual amount they sent to you, if it's the wrong amount according to your records, just call the company and they will send you a corrected 1099. I've requested corrections many times over the years.
