Mistake?

Over a month ago 11/30, I did a signing. Borrowers weren't happy with the numbers, so they fixed things and I went back a couple days later. Today I get a call saying that when they went to record, there was a document stuck to another document and it hadn't been signed or notarized, she asked if I could go out and get it signed again right away and I told her "yes, of course", I guarantee my work.

Then I got off the phone and was thinking about what I do after every signing (go through every page once at the table, then twice at home) and was thinking there is no way I would have missed a page. I can't wait to get the page and check if it was really in there, I still have the edocs.

Does this sound really weird, especially because they are calling about a signing done a month ago?

It doesn't sound really weird

It sounds like a typical way to screw over and blame the notary for someone else's mistake. Happens all the time.

Assuming it wasn't in the edocs they sent you, make sure you get paid to go back out and fix it, and get it in writing before you do it. Trying to do it after the fact will likely be futile.

Re: It doesn't sound really weird

Yeah, I suspected that. It was the Alta Affidavit and it wasn't in my docs.

Cali is right. Forward the original edoc email to whomever asked you to go back out. Explain that while you guarantee your work to be error free, that does not include docs that were not in the package that should have been and you will be happy to help out for a fee of $XXX.

Hey Liz
I just had the same thing happen to me right before christmas and it was the same doc. I told them I had no problem with it but I will charge you $... and we made it work, but I did get it in writing.

The answer is "ooooohhhhh yes!" and "oh good", you still have the edocs. This has happened to me in the past and I have heard this before!!! Check those edocs!!!. I now hold the edocs for at least 2 months. This is a slick trick. Someone is sliding one in. Have no fear to let them know that you still have the copy of the original send and collect your due for making a second trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep SS in loop

I do my best and I am happy to go back and fix mistakes, but when they lie to the signing service, and try to make me go back for free to fix THEIR mistake, I think it also makes me look bad, like, "Gee, she ALWAYS misses this document", when really THEY always forget to put it in. Please keep your siging service in the loop for fixing this, because they also make more money when you have to charge for a second trip, and they also back you up when someone blames you for their own mistake. The SS are (usually) on your side.

Re: Keep SS in loop

I did let them know and you are right, they wanted me to forward them the emails so they could back me up and pay me for it.
