SOX: Sign on the X

Apparently the company has closed their bank account at Commercial Capital Bank. The last "pay" check I received was returned as "account closed." I have attempted to reach the firm's accounts payable department, but only get an answering machine.

You have posts on this board going to back to 2003, yet you took work from SOX? Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb.

I am sorry they stiffed you, but I am glad they are finally out of business. If they have been paying you before that bad check, consider yourself lucky.

Are they out of business

or did they just change bank accounts?

For the record, I have never accepted a closing from SOX and don't even remember receiving a call from them.

SOX: Sign on the X/American Home Mortgage

If I recall correctly, SOX was in bed with American Home Mortgage, now in bankruptcy.

Without AHM, if it is true that SOX is out of business, SOX would never have been in business as long as it was.

Unfortunately, these same predators (SOX) will resurrect like an evil Phoenix with some other identity while hiding their past.

I prefer to not express glee at the downfall of others as, I believe, most folks have good intentions; however, I am confident that there are a great many notaries across the United States who have a twinkle in their eyes when they learn of the demise of this business with remarkably despicable business practices.

Three cheers!

The last I heard, they had gotten an account with Nations Lending.

Re: SOX: Sign on the X/American Home Mortgage

This is a joke right? I still can not believe that ANYONE would work for this company. I am about ready to start a petition against notaries that work for SOX. The company can only keep going on and screwing people- if you let them!!!!!!!!!! Wise up!!!! Turn the light on and look in the mirror and realize that you have made a big mistake by accepting an assignment from them. Stop crying and boo- hooing about not getting paid- YOU KNEW WHEN YOU ACCEPTED THE ASSIGNMENT THAT YOU WOULD NOT BE PAID!!!!!!!!!! People stop working for them!!!!!!!!!!! Just say NO.

We are not in disagreement.

IF SOX is out of business, then for some reason, I'm hearing the song from the Wizard of OZ when the Wicked Witch of the West was pronounced dead. Perhaps this recession will clear out some of the bad apples of our profession.

Re: SOX: Sign on the X/American Home Mortgage

I heard from them last month at EOM and was quite surprised as they owe me from 3 years ago. When I told the caller that I was surprised he offered to "look into it for me". I wrote off the loss a long time ago.

"Who are the higher-ups at SOX/Signatures Plus? I'm talking about the owners and managers. If they do decide to do business under a different name it might be helpful to have some names to look out for."

NSF vs Account Closed

My understanding is that writing a check without sufficient funds is a civil matter, as opposed to writing a check on a closed account, which is a criminal matter. Perhaps this is just Oregon, but the difference could mean getting a criminal conviction versus a judgment. Might be worth checking into.

You get an answering machine because JoAnn A/P is the first person who answers the phone and puts you straight to her voicemail.
