SS bankruptcies - just got Certified Signing paperwork
Sigh Just got the bankruptcy claim paperwork for Cassondra Parker at Certified Signing in TX. Luckily I only have one unpaid, but it was for $150, a purchase/sale edocs assignment in a distant location. So of course I get to eat the cost of the paper, toner, gas, phone, etc., etc., along with my time spent on phone calls, emails, downloading and printing the edocs, driving to and from the closing, and at the closing with the purchasers and sellers.
I've been luckier than many of you, I guess, in that I had one unpaid $125 from Express Financial when they went bankrupt, and now this one. But that still adds up to a $275 loss of anticipated income plus my expenses - not a small chunk of change to lose for anyone.

Many SS were arrogant, rude and supercilious a few years ago, with many pages of insulting requirements and threats that any deviation from those requirements would result in a deduction from our fee...but they had no compunction whatsoever about using the notary's portion of the funds they were paid by the title company to pay their own bills and delay paying the notary as long as possible. And now it's caught up with them...and with us notaries. The SS got the entire amount from the title company, kept the entire amount, and we worked involuntarily for free.
New notaries especially should read this board and do searches under the company's name as soon as they are contacted by any signing service to check on the company's payment record.
