SS going out of business/

Maybe it is too much to ask from Harry, but it would be great to have a little check mark on the companies that are "possible out of business" in Signing Central, so when people check here in NOTROT will have an idea how is that company doing.

For example there are a few companies that have sent letters to notaries saying that they are no longer in business and they still accepting signings from escrows, titles et c.

I, too, asked if the list could be updated to show who was in or out of business, but the answer was they were too busy and didn't have the time to update it. It is up to the notaries to keep a list of who's no longer in business.

My opinion is that if you are going to offer a list, then the list could be updated at least once a year.

The way things are going, every week would be more like it. Not practical, but necessary.

Huh? If the SS is out of business they won't be calling...

to schedule closings. Therefore, notaries will not be checking them out here. In the case of the newbies that use the list to market, it might be an eye opening experience for them to get undeliverable emails and find websites gone.

It would be nice to offer an up to the minute list, but with the growing number of SSs & TCs closing their doors, I just can't see that it would be practical for NotRot to spend the time updating. Maybe someone with computer experience and time on their hands can start up a TC&SS implode-o-meter. There ya go...a freebie money making idea. Run with it and don't ever say I never gave you nothing.

Becca, it's not a case of notaries checking companies out here - it's a case of notaries relying on Signing Central for a portion of their marketing and without some indication in Signing Central they're marketing to closed companies...I think that's what the original poster meant.

Exactly why I said "In the case of the newbies that use the list to market, it might be an eye opening experience for them to get undeliverable emails and find websites gone." Not just for newbies, but others using the list to market.

Harry did create that link feature that most people neglect to use when they post a new thread about a company. If they linked everything properly, all news about the company would be linked up. Wouldn't that be a start, Linda?

A couple of weeks ago I printed out the entire list from Signing Central and then went company by company to check what the comments were and if they were still in business. I also checked other forums for comments as well as checking Google, etc. It's time consuming but then that's what a lot of us have right now. I'm still working my way through the list.
