re: ASN
What do you all think of American Society of Notaries? Is it a waste of my money?

I think as a professional organization, it's better than XYZ, but I have been a member for almost a year and I will not be renewing. They do have info posted on their website, and they do send out two "hot tips" e-mails monthly, but you have to specifically log in to their website to access their newsletters. They don't send anything to you in the mail besides a welcome package. The info they have provided is stuff I already know because I am proactive and read this chat board as well as other sources of info. For me, it was not a good value and I will not be renewing, but others may feel differently.
I do believe that if you call them with a question, they will give you accurate info - unlike other organizations. But I have never had the need to call them with any questions.

Roger, That is a decision only you can make. I have been a member for 8 years now. They don't hound you like the NNA do, and I know if I have a question I will get an accurate answer. I will be renewing in March.

Sylvia's right - they don't constantly hound you for money like XYZ does! I do believe they are an organization truly devoted to its notary members.

"I do believe they are an organization truly devoted to its notary members."
They are. And you won't find nicer people than Kathleen Butler, Don Verbocy or Carly Heitz, the main people at the ASN.

Is it a good source for advertisement?

They do have a Notary Locator which I have used occasionally. But they are not in the Signing Agent business,

American Society of Notaries membership
I will continue to renew. ASN is geared to Notaries Public, not signing agents, mortgage orginators, immigration, and home-based business development. I like them for their notary educational information and timely accurate answers.
I don't consider it a business advertising site. If you are thinking of them only to advertise our signing agent business, I wouldn't recommend them. If you want to support a NOTARY education association that promotes notaries public and has a PUBLIC notary search feature, then support them like I do.
I agree with Sylvia.
