I have previously worked for the census bureau when i was in college. As signing agents I think we are perfect to take this on. I was paid per completed census questionnaire. We know how to work quickly and keep the BO on point which would definitely come into play here!
GL to those who do this. It is a once every 10 year assignment and will be very very interesting!

Zee, I was thinking the same thing...
...that it would utilize many of the skills used by notaries/signing agents; however, because I've never been hired by the census bureau, I was reluctant to say so. I didn't include a link to the UIS Census Bureau's website but it is easy to "Google" to get there. There's lots of information about the application process and pay. Many of the jobs pay weekly!

I am one of those lucky - Not - households who's address is randomly chosen for life where they do not mail me the census. They have to visit my house. I have to fill out this entire pkg regarding things like ex: gas vs electric water heater, washer, dryer. How many bathrooms, bedrooms. I have to show my utility bills and seperate water, sewer, gas, electric. I was told that my address will always have to answer these questions no matter who lives here.
Interesting that they are starting now to gather workers. I may look into it. Anyone know what it pays, what kind of hours etc.

$16-$22 per hour for some positions
Then there are the managerial roles. Again, I apologize for not posting the link. The Bureau did an excellent job on the webiste - lots of PDF documents with information regarding pay, hours, benefits, etc.

you are paid per completed apps... I read and comprehend quickly and after doing about 3-4 you are rocking and rolling. the secret is to control the questionaire and ask the questions. some are easily answered by one phrasing one answer if you know the area. Just like loan docs if they start reading..............you can be there forever!

Re: 2010 Census - Way to Go Michelle!
I just know that the NNA would have liked to have somehow figured out a way to make this theirs.

I also did this in 2000. If the handhelds catch the errors that were made using paper, this should be a great step forward.

It will be a different kind of Census Taking in 2010...http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12156738/
Perfect work for LSA's/Notary Publics. I agree, NNA asleep at the wheel not to try to spear head this idea for "their" audience?

Here's how to find out how to "partner" with the Census Bureau in your state/jurisdiction.

Re: 2010 Census - Michelle
If you were to benefit in any way from posting the information, if you owned the company you were promoting, if it was a website in opposition to this one, then it would be "advertising"
So, your post should not be considered advertising

I was one of the Managers for the 2000 Census. It was very difficult to get "quality" workers.
We had a difficult time hiring workers -- there was a lag time from when the person took the Census Test, to when we started to call them for the jobs. And by the time we started to make the calls, half of the test takers said that they were no longer interested in working for the Census.
Then the half that was interested in working for the Census... a 1/4 of them didn't pass the DOJ / FBI Background check. We called in everyone that we could, & still had to eliminate some of them (some came to the training session buzzed on some substance, or had possibly a mental illness).
Those that did get hired -- worked a very long time. We had to send some of them to a different City to work also (they got free lodging, gas & a food allowance), because the work just didn't seem to be getting done in a timely manner in that City (to many slackers, that were milking the system).
(Just remember if you are interested in working for the Census --- it isn't always fun. There are hazards to the job. We had one lady get mauled by a dog, one get shot at, & others took verbal abuse because it was the Gov't that wanted to know the information, etc.)

To All Who Replied
Sylvia, thank you for explaining the advertising thing to me. I really wasn't sure. It seems so many make the mistake (deliberately or accidently) of advertising that I did not want to be guilty of doing the same thing.
Mia, thank you for sharing your experience. It keeps it in perspective but it is also encouraging for those of us who may be serious about this opportunity.
And to everyone else who responded, your feedback was helpful. I'm going to pursue this further. Might make for some interesting posts here on NotRot and more importantly, some additional income.
