Do laser printers have a certain life expectancy?
Is there a certain life expectancy on the under 500.00 laser printers??? I am on my second one this was close to 450.00. HP laser2015p. I have had for almost 1 year. I do at least 13 e-Docs per month not very many 2nds this year. It seems that my printer is slowing down and is having issue after issue. Any knowledge on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I've had my HP 4100n for 3 years this Nov. Never a problem
and haven't done a thing to it. I also bought it refurbished, so it wasn't new when I bought it. I definetlely have gotten my money's worth. Would buy another one in a heartbeat.

I buy good used commercial laser printers. My HP 4200 has 300K printed and over the years I've had it, I don't recall but a few misfeeds. No problem with my HP 4100 either. Today, I found an HP 4200 w/ 9000 pages printed on Ebay for $190 - throw in the 2nd tray for $35. Remanufactured toner @ $25 a cartridge. I'm going to put the 2nd HP 4200 in my office.
Never pay new for a commercial printer. They last forever and large companies trade them in every couple of years meaning the one that's been sitting on the receptionists desk may have printed a couple thousand pages. When they are rated for 150K - 200K a month, I don't care if it's 2-3 years old, it's basically new and you can get it for a fraction of the cost.

Ditto here. I have an HP2200 bought new in 2001 and it is still pumping them out. Duel tray of course and aside from probably two cleanings it is a charm. I too refill toner and when the toner drum wears out I buy a cartridge (the drums now are also available alone).
A good quality commerical printer designed to print 150-200k pages a month will last a very long time and is designed to be pretty much bullet proof. Money very well spent - either new or used/refurbished.
P.S. I bought a Brother 5250DN over a year ago as a "just in case" and it is still in the box.

I purchased an HP Laserjet 4000TN with network capabilities for $90 on e-bay with the second tray, it had 200,000 copies when I bought it and it has worked like a dream, never any problems. The old 4000, 4050, 4100 and 4150 printers are fantastic work horses. Was able to pick up a duplexer for another $30, $22 each for toner cartridges at tonerpirate.com that go at LEAST 8-10,000 copies each - as long as you pay attention to what you're getting on e-bay you can make some really good purchases.

Doesn't everthing have a life expectancy?
My HP 3015 is still cranking since February 2005. My HP 1300, since September 2005 and my HP 2430 since December 2006. I use my 3015 all day, everyday and refill cartridges. The other two, I use only for loan docs and can only refill the 1300. I'm waiting for the day that I can refill the 2430 cartridges.
My first laser printer was a Samsung 4016 and I still use it today in the back of my SUV for making copies of DL's.
Call me an HP chick because they have never failed me and have never failed to deliver.

That printer should have lasted a lot longer than that. It will be a lesson learned. When you purchase a new HP printer, you can get extended warranties from HP. I don't purchase the store's plans because I don't get HP support that way. If you'd had the service plan they would have replaced it (usually overnight). We should not assume that products are being manufactured to be "disposable". The advice on going to the commercial printers is good. That's the way that I went. My HP 4050 also saves a lot of cost on toner cartridges.
