Fees
We must have someone in my area that is accepting low fees! I certainly would like to find out who it is! Anyone have any ideas how I can do that? I did many closings for Service Link in the past...When I raised my fees because of the cost of gasoline, they have been giving the business to someone else! Some people will evidently work for next to nothing!

About the only way to do that is a trip to the courthouse to check recordings & see who the notary was. This can also be useful to see what lenders are most active in your area & thru which TC. Go get 'em...

I am able to look up mortgage online in my county. I can search by lender or borrower name. I found out who was doing the $50 signings. I was doing Citi Bank closings for $125 and they stopped after they started paying $50. I did a search for all Citi Bank loans. Same notary was doing them all

I would hate to know I hired a notary who charged a measly $50 to handle any paperwork, let alone a mortgage closing! Do these notaries actually think they are making money doing closings at those prices? Its unbelievable! Greed does wierd things to wierd people! Thanks for the info Margaret, I will check and see if I can look up that info here in my area.

What Lee said. However, how will this help you? Clench your teeth and know that you will eventually be one of the last left standing.

Some notaries are working from their (other job) for an employer who is not aware that their toner and paper, fax machine and printers are being used for loan closings and not for the county, state or company business. There are notaries who do not have any overhead cost and can afford to close loans at $50. Why do you see the questions on contracts " may we call you on your job?" Also here in Maryland we have to have a TPL which is totally ignored by most. NNA profile of notaries list under signing agents those who do not have TPL and those that do. They are saying" both can do"

The NNA lists notaries in seperate categories of those who have a TPL and those who do not? And then they state that both can legally conduct loan signings in Maryland? That would be something to let the MIA know about if true. I wouldn't know, I do not have anything to do with the NNA.

No, they don't. I just checked the listings.

Alice I checked the NNA's notary list of signing agents in your area. The only place where a TPL is mentioned is under the particular notary's profile. If the notary doesn't put in the profile that they have a TPL then it won't show up in the profile. The headings for the listings are: Miles Name / Status City Zip Comm Years 24-hr Laser Brcard ENS Enjoa eDoc Laptop
No TPL column there.

You are correct Sylvia. What I meant was that we are lumped together (the licensed and non-licensed) Why are they listed as Signing Agent with NNA in Maryland if they don't have the license to practice in the State? This is a law, and NNA still list non-licenced notaries as closers.
