Hello all, any advice for a newbie?
Hello everyone, Just a short message to say hello to all. I was wondering if any one had any advice for the newbie notary? Thanks, Tim

Duck!!!!!
That is an unpopular question on this board.
But seriously - read the messages that are posted here. Some contain helpful information.

Re: Duck!!!!!
Or as I like to say, 'You might as well smear bacon grease on yourself and go out to play with the coyotes'.

Best advice anyone could give is to read your notary handbook thoroughly and make sure you know your notary laws backwards and forwards. Make sure you know the difference between a jurat and an acknowledgment, what your state's notary fees are etc. Too many new notaries don't know the answers to those basic notary questions.

I would expand upon what Sylvia says: know what Venue is, what it means. If can't figure out, search here.

A word of advice...do a search for what you don't know before you ask.

Message 33325- I copied a reply below
<<<SEARCH BUTTON as the guidelines pointed out when you posted a new message? >>>
I think the eye is naturally drawn to the blank box and the poster starts typing while ignoring the tiny words under "Important Notice". It would be a good idea if moderators changed the format so that when the "new message" is clicked, ONLY the "Important Notice" box shows (14 font or larger), message 33325 is mentioned and the poster cannot help but read it, then they have to click again to actually post. May curtail a lot of "how do I get started posts".
Good Luck, Keep your head down!

Yes, don't "advertise" that you are a "newbie" on this board. They will eat you alive.

I beg to differ - a little...
First of all, maybe it's what he was thinking, but he didn't ask how to get more business, how to find clients, how to get started, what to put on a certain line, etc. He didn't even say that he wants to be a loan signer. He just asked for general advice. [If that was an accident, Timothy, it was a fortuitous one! ] And I think everyone did a pretty good job of giving some valuable general advice.
It's all in the attitude. BUT... a word of warning, as MW/VA implied, ask a lame question about something even a newbie should know, or something easily found on your own with a little effort, or something that requires someone else's time to save some of yours... and yes, you're likely to get eaten alive... so to speak.
