I thought June was bad....

July has really taken the cake. Only 1 phone call ALL month!! I think I seriously need to get a "real" job. :-(

I know what you mean....

I haven't had any phone calls for this month yet. Good thing this is only a side job and not my milk money!!

June was the worst month I ever had and I'm a 16 year veteran. July however has started off with fireworks. So far I have done three times what I did the entire month of June. Just hope it lasts!

3 so far, but I took off the first week of the month

This is always slow month around this area, big vacation time. Glad I have PT job too.

June was very bad and July is starting out very slow. One call so far this month. I thought it was my price ($xyz) that caused slow down.

Re: I don't understand why this comes as such a surprise

The mortgage market is in the toilet and gas prices continue to rise -- how do people benefit by posting about it daily, weekly, monthly ... ?

Re: I don't understand why this comes as such a surprise

Maybe Carolyn they feel better because it isn't happening to ONLY them. We all work in very singular environments and don't have the benefit of "beyotchin" to our co-workers about the cut backs etc.

It provides a sense of community to some to read that they aren't in the boat alone.

I don't see everyone who is posting the NSA blues to be "sitting around and doing nothing", but looking for a little social commiseration to the situation we're all involved with.
I know I like to some days. But I am doing other kinds of work to get by, and catching up with things I missed doing back in the hey-day. And marketing, and .....

Caught this on CNBC regarding a life failure or collapse of

Business or Health...I don't know what the show was but it came on after American Greed last night.

I was running around doing other things but did hear this much--

Acknowledge the failure - Give yourself a day to grieve when the world collapses on you, then cut it off and makes some plans for getting it all back together again;
Take small real actions toward coming back; get a feeling of accomplishment flowing;
Make a list of all the bad things that can happen and get it all out of your head and onto paper; then make a list of all the good things that can happen and don't forget them;
Get exercise to increase your health and good mood factor;
Eat properly;
Find one lesson you might have learned from the failure (and on the other hand others said, don't think about learning a lesson. It could have been out of your control. )
Believe in yourself and your ability to do what you need to do to come back.
Talk positively to yourself, not negatively.
Compartmentalize your failure and do not let it bleed over into other areas of your life, give it boundaries...don't lump this failure/crisis into who you are as a friend, parent, etc.

These were people who had suffered critical failures and recovered totally from them.

Final thought I heard last night - if you live a long life you WILL experience failure and crisis. It is a fact of life so accept it and move along toward new accomplishment.

Re: Caught this on CNBC regarding a life failure or collapse of

"Take small real actions toward coming back; get a feeling of accomplishment flowing;"

I find that I will make lists and then prioritize them. What I don't finish, I carry over to the next day, week, month, etc. Sometimes I only get one thing done, but I have accomplished something, so I strive for more the next day. Not always successful, but so what - I got one thing done.

There is always "something" that needs to be done that you know in your heart of hearts that only you can do 'right'. Do that thing today (no one can wash dishes to my satisfaction - just not going to happen - my thing). So I do my dishes, tidy the kitchen, wash the floor: viola! I did something better than anyone else in the world! How successful is that???

Maybe you do something else, ie, cook the best stew in the world - that's fine, do it. Cross it off the list and you will have had a successful day. When you add something else to the list, prioritize again. Some of the things that are on your initial list you will find are no longer important, as you have re-prioritized your life and your thinking. It is all progress, out of the slump.

Always try to get something on your list that is outside of you, like, make someone smile or laugh. That is much easier said than done sometimes, but wait, if it was a stupid crazy idea, and someone begins to laugh at you?? - no, you laugh first, then they are laughing WITH you. And you will be on the path to being your own cheerleader, and we all need one (or 100 and 1). It starts with one: one idea, one thought, one step...see how it progresses???

Success breeds success - that old axiom is sooo true!

Re: Caught this on CNBC regarding a life failure or collapse of

We are all in the same situation when it comes to signings, some have it better depending on where they are located.

I had 2 last week and this week I finally got one for tomorrow. This is suppose to be my full time job but the writing is on the wall this is not going to get better anytime soon if at all.

I am now working some part time merchandising job at $9 per hour but work on my own schedule, also decided to go back to school after 20 years and taking courses to get certified as a medical coder. Medical jobs will not be outsourced to India. at least I hope not and should always have something available because we all get old and sick.

I already have my bachelors in marketing from 20 years ago but most want to hire young 20 somethings where they can pay less and get fresh minds.

I am sending out resumes for a Full time job as well and had an interview a few days ago so things hopefully are starting to get better.

thank God for small things and remember in the past when things were bad they always get better. Our ancestors had it worst during the depression and they managed for the most part.

Re: Spot on Joe - you get it!

Congratulations on your past accomplishments and for now choosing to go back to school.

You don't have to have the writing on the wall translated for you -- you know that the mortgage industry is in trouble and although it may come back, it won't happen in days or months -- but, instead it will take several years. This has been a good ride for us, however, the gravy train is over -- and no wishing or hoping or list making is going to change that.

I hope you are wrong about outsourcing medical jobs to India -- however, they are already doing medical transcription, so can medical coding be far behind?

Brenda - Thanks for sharing this...

...you were certainly a good listener to be able to write all that down. Last year in July, I had 13 closings by July 11...so far this month I have had 2, and 1 was a modification. I am going to print what you wrote, and tape it to my desk, frig and bathroom mirror.

I make a list most days of 5 things to accomplish based on my personal goals, and I will make sure that at least one of them will be an effort to increase my business.

Re: Brenda - Thanks for sharing this...

I listen and try to internalize positive, helpful ideas as much as I can...the world is full of garbage...finding positive ways to think and negotiate life is (for me) essential. It is the way I find contentment, happy enough to be interested in moving forward, and energetic enough to get those occasional goals met or projects done. Smile

CNBC and ( sometimes MSNBC ) has pretty good business and money sense programs on here and there.

I am an American Greed fan! CNBC.

Also, when MSNBC has a good reality show (like Dateline reruns) I watch it then.

American Greed is expose' type journalism on religious cults based on greed...Enron type companies, etc.

Worldcom and Tyco were some of the ones that currently come to mind.

Why do we have to stop all this crying

because we are not the only ones reading this board. Did you ever stop to think that JUST MAYBE part of the problem with our low fees is all our crying about our lack of work, getting a "real" job, etc. We are supplying the low ballers with all the ammunition they need. Why offer to pay a reasonable fee when there are "hundreds" of NSA's out there just dying for the work. It's supply and demand and Econ 101. I'm not saying we need to start bragging about how busy we are, anyone with half a brain would know that is not true, but when we complain daily and lengthily at that, we are walking into a trap we've set ourselves.

If business is that bad, do something positive or keep quiet about it. It is up to you whether you want to participate in this mini recession or not. Famous words spoken almost 70 years ago, but still true today, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself". Also, just remember that FEAR is an acronym for "False Evidence Appearing Real".

We are better than all this bellyaching.
