Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3)

Jack Tri, you brought this company up in a previous post. Have you, or anyone else, used their website? If so, was your complaint resolved?

I filed a complaint with them a couple of years back. I had an internet business, someone bought something from me with a fraudulent credit card. Item was shipped to a Michigan address, etc. I gave the complaint center all the info, never heard a thing back from them. I lost $630.00. My opinion is that they devote their resources to major operations, not the small fish like us.

With all the posts about non payers, it would

seem that if enough of us DID file with them that we would become a bigger fish. Not as individuals, but as an industry.
I would be more concerned with FBI complaints against me than the BBB who are nothing more than a bunch of self appointed self righteous pay me for ratings people. BBB is really a powerless institution with nothing but a rating system. Signing Central has more direct impact on the non payers as we can look up easily the ones that are listed.

- just venting before I start the next round of attempts at getting paid before I publicly slam them.

please post on signing central

I often look on Signing Central for a quick reference only to find the company not listed BUT go to Notary Talk and you find all kinds of G/B/U on the same company. If all posters would make sure to add companies to the list and rate them, it would benifit all of us. It also would eliminate most of the "have you ever heard of..." posts on Notary Talk.

Yowheelz, unless you're referring to DAC, which is already

listed there, I don't think IC3 is a company that that should be added to SC....IC3 is an investigative unit, not a signing service or title company - MHO

Re: With all the posts about non payers, it would

I would be surprised if they were to get involved with most complaints from signing agents. I believe that there has to be a case made for intentional fraud, not just a failure to pay. In the case that I cited there was fraud. The so called buyer used the internet to commit a fraud against me i.e., he went to my website, purchased materials with a fake credit card. I don't think that would apply to the average SS that engages a NSA, then fails to pay them because their low on funds. I would think that a case has to be made that the SS or whomever used the internet to hire people with no intention to ever paying them. Kind of hard to prove in my opinion.
I definitely agree with you about the BBB, I scratch my head everytime I hear someone saying that they "entered a complaint with the BBB" because they weren't paid. I think it would be more helpful if a complaint is made with a credit reporting agency like Dun & Bradstreet or anyplace else where the non-payors credit can be compromised. Just like a consumer gets a bad mark when they don't pay their credit card company or any other creditor. Maybe that's more of a direction we should take.

Re: With all the posts about non payers, it would

So, is it fraud when a formerly good client hires you to do six closings in a three week period and files bankruptcy the day after the last closing you did? When I went after them for the money, I was told "I filed bankruptcy, so I don't have to pay you". I said "Oh, so you can hire a notary with no intention of paying him/or her, take the money from the borrowers and then file bankruptcy to get out of paying the notaries?". She said, "I don't have to take this abuse", then hung up on me.

There should be laws against that in every state.

Signing Central

I was not refering to the internet fraud, I was refering to the comment "Signing Central has more direct impact on the non payers as we can look up easily the ones that are listed." We need to have more companies listed with ratings.

I think they are prob so overly busy they go after the big

ones as unfortunately it makes sense. But I also believe they keep a file on each company and if enough hits on a company they might address the complaint. I filed a complaint for the only ss that did not pay and in my final demand letter before going to court I mentioned that and my opinion is that it scared them a bit and they paid me before I filed court papers.

JMO: Put a complaint in thru them as every little bit helps eventually.
