New Notary

Hi everyone. My name is Dora Williams. I was hoping to gain experience as a signing agent. If there is anyone in the Essex county NJ area that would not mind showing me the ropes I would so much appreciate it. If you dont mind email me at [e-mail address]

Thanks

Re: New Notary just curious .... did you use the ORANGE

SEARCH BUTTON as the guidelines pointed out when you posted a new message?

If you had you would know the answer to your request..........

this is an incredibly slow time in the business and it is doubtful anyone would want to train you to take what little business they have away from them.........

I think the eye is naturally drawn to the blank box and the poster starts typing while ignoring the tiny words under "Important Notice". It would be a good idea if moderators changed the format so that when the "new message" is clicked, ONLY the "Important Notice" box shows (14 font or larger), message 33325 is mentioned and the poster cannot help but read it, then they have to click again to actually post. May curtail a lot of "how do I get started posts".

And you got quite a helpful answer, reality checks are very useful. Unless you're going to act like a pouty child and refuse to take the advice to heart.

It is beyond stupid to expect people to train their competition. Even if you ask nicely.

Re: New Notary just curious .... so not taking business away

Ironically,

It was "competition" that trained me. H.L. King held a signing agent course for about $20. It was a 3 hour course. She trained extensively and at the end of the course, she gave you the opportunity to sign up with her or not. It was through her that I became aware of this site and other sites. She led me by the hand and even printed docs and reviewed the packages for some of her signing agents. I believe she ran into some financial issues and stopped paying her agents. I too have helped other notaries become signing agents in my area and I will gladly do it again.

Stupid or not, you will never know if someone will help you unless you ask. I also realize that in my state (LA), notaries are hard to find. So we possibly do not have to worry about competition as much as notaries in other states.

Also curious...

<<You know I thought this forum was for notaries to network and help each other...>>

So, out of curiosity, what kind of help were *you* planning to share with all of us, hmmm??

Sorry. I've been tempted to post something like this so many times, and I should have resisted. It's just that we've had this type of exchange too many times to count now. Someone brand new who obviously hasn't made the effort to research the market or learn the ropes on their own, just shows up and wants US to help THEM, and then gets upset because we don't take the time to spell it all out -- stuff that is here in abundance, free for the taking, if only someone would make the effort to find it. [I guess I shouldn't respond to posts like this when it's this late...]

If you read back a week or two, you'll learn that business has slowed dramatically. The advice given to you here is very worth taking seriously. If you want to make it in this business, expect to work your fanny off. If someone told you otherwise, they weren't doing you any favors.

Zee, why are you being so mean to her... sniff sniff. She was just ...sniff... asking...sniff sniff... for some help.
Now you've gone and hurt her feeeeeeelings.

The word entitlement comes to mind eh?

Re: New Notary just curious .... so not taking business away

Why do we have to worry about 'Feelings"? We are talking facts, practical, pragmatic, cold, hard facts. Not feelings!

If it is feelings, go talk to mom or sister, etc. Families care about feelings, business does not. If someone wants to 'feel good', go get an education in all aspects of life, then will be equipped to deal with life without resorting to "feelings".

If someone went to the effort to get that type of education, they wouldn't be running around taking the chance that they are doing a closing for company's that may never pay them. Instead, they'd be raking in cash for being a psychologist, therapist or psychiatrist.
