Notary on Martha's Vineyard MA
Hello. Anybody know of a notary On Martha's Vineyard island in MA? I just need one document signed. It is a loan modification not a full closing and does not require an attorney. Let me know. Contact info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Try inputting the brw's zip code into the "find a notary" feature here for results.

Yeah. Tried that. Lots of agents in the mainland across the ferry, but none on the island. I would hate to have a notary take a ferry and take a cab to meet the borrowers for one signature. There has to be somebody on the island with all of the business out there, etc.

Brian, if there is a UPS store or a fed ex kinkos
Many times they have a notary on staff. They'd just have to pay the notary fees out of pocket, or maybe you could make arrangenments with that particuar store to pay over the phone with a C/C.

Good idea. There is a UPS store on the island, but they wil not travel from their office. Borrower is being crabby about leaving his home.

See if you can hire the notary directly
I know the notary is the franchise owner here, and he will make occasional house calls.

Tell the borrower that his options are to get his lazy butt over to the UPS Store, or he can pay $250 for a notary to come in from the mainland.
I wouldn't waste too much time trying to cater to somebody so unreasonable, if he lives there he knows damn well what an inconvenience this type of stuff can be.

Pay for the Ferry & the Taxi Cab
Pay the Notary for the Ferry & the Taxi Cab Fees.
Or you could call Senator Teddy K. and see if he knows of anyone in the "Compound" who is a Notary Public.... but, isn't MA an Attorney Supervised Closing State? Teddy should know of some Lawyers too.

No bridge to Martha's Island or to the next door famous Chappaquiddick Island. Martha's Island has only ferry and air service. If the borrower can afford a home there, he can probably afford to have an attorney bring him the papers.

I'm quite familiar with Martha's Vineyard, I've sailed there
many Summers from my home in Falmouth Me. And while there may be no bridge there is plenty of water and it wasn't the bridge that claimed Mary Jo Kopechne's life it was the water and whatever may have happened in it!

PS: The BO can afford to live there BECAUSE he doesn't have
an attorney bring him the papers.

If your signer is crabby about leaving his house
see if he wants to take the docs to his bank - he maybe able to get it notarized free there...if he's crabby about leaving his house he'll be even crabbier about having to pay!! JMO

I think that is what we are going to have to do. Much obliged for all the good tips.

Re: If your signer is crabby about leaving his house
If an attorney is not required, perhaps the nearest town clerk's office can do it. I don't know about Massachusetts, but New England town clerks are often notaries (in Vermont, they are notaries by law).
