On the passing of Gene Hines
Founder of the ASN. The comments by his freind speaks volumes. It shows the type of man Gene was and it also reflects the organization he founded.
Jack Diestelhorst of Notary Public Underwriters, Inc., a long-time member of the ASN Board of Directors and a personal friend of Gene’s, reminisced with deep respect and affection. “Gene Hines was always about doing things right. He never wanted to mislead the notary for any reason. He could easily have ‘stretched the truth’ to sell more memberships to unsuspecting notaries or encourage them to buy products they didn't need. But he never did. Being an attorney well versed in notary law, he even went so far as to answer most technical notarial questions himself because of his desire to always lead the notary in the right legal direction. That was the Gene Hines I knew. He will be missed.”

I have always admired ASN and have been a member for a long time. Unlike XYZ they have always upheld the notary profession and it's members. Thank God for people like Mr. Hines, he is leaves a legacy that will benefit many people well beyond his life.

I've been a member of ASN for many years, and have enjoyed the many benefits of this organization. I haven't been hounded to subscribe to special arm of NSA membership and renewing my certification every two years in order to be in good standing and qualified to be on their preferred NSA list, to buy any equipment that is years from being used practically in the notary profession in my state, or to become a TEA, whatever the heck that is, or to renew my membership a year in advance lest I forget. But rather the ASN really does seek to support and mentor its membership and not to gouge it. I'm sure ASN will be around for a long time, and continue to provide solid and responsible mentoring and services to its members. Here's to honoring Gene Hines for years of service and dedication to our profession.
