Quite often the states website will have a Division of Corporations or a Licensing division where you can look up companies.

Yep, Nick, Luis and Gary (formally Final Step). I asked them to stop calling because they couldn't meet my fee. Nick called practically begging me to do it for $5 under my price, turned out it was a closing at an international airport ticket counter that they got $250 for (they mistakenly forwarded me emails). All of the ones in my area were for reo's, major headaches, one I waited for 2 hours of 'just a few more minutes' for the final Hud when I asked that my fee be increased they wouldn't, another one was a poa with no prior notice causing docs to be re-sent, then the bo showed up anyway. Wouldn't work for them again ~ especially after learning what they did to so many notaries dba The Final Step.

Yes, sound like the same way they always did business. Besides all the hassle, you then have to hound them for payment--not worth it.
