Vehicle Warning
Older model vehicles have gas tanks that are lined. Newer models have tanks that are galvanized. It's costing me a chunk of change right now to have my tanks replaced due to the ethanol addition in the gas we buy at the pumps. The ethanol has been slowly dissolving the lining in my tanks. My mechanic was wondering where all the stringy grey junk was coming from that was plugging up my fuel system, now we know because the inside of both tanks is patchy with missing lining.
The good side to this is my rig will run smooth again and my mileage will go back to normal. -note to self, stay positive, stay positive...

Me? 2000, bought used 3yrs. ago
with very low mileage as it was owned by a trucker who apparently was never home to drive it. Tho' we still have an ol' '83 Chev. truck that's still going & going & going.

1996, maybe it goes by make & model?
'96 Ford F-250 4X4. It's never broken down on me and gets fairly decent mileage for a workhorse.
Now it needs two galvanized tanks, two fuel pumps, lines blown clear, fuel injector repairs and new fuel filters. Mechanic says I'll have it back by Friday which is good because the In-laws are coming to visit for a week. I'll need to be getting out of here!

What I mean is, is yours considered older? If I have a car
2005, to me that is newer, but, for this category, only, is my car older or newer?
I don't mean to be dense, but that issue is not clear to me. So just humor an old lady please?

Re: What I mean is, is yours considered older? If I have a
By the previous post regarding 1986 or so, I would think maybe the best bet is to google your car and look for the specs on your tank to see if it is lined or galvanized. My wife has a 2005 freestyle and she puts the cheapo gas in it and has never had a problem. I run the mid grade octane so as to avoid the 'dieseling' effect.

I checked this out on Google and there is a matter for concern. Also if you have any of the old fiberrglass gas tanks either inboard or portable they have found some very definate problems.
