"In witness whereof. . ."

Some time ago - weeks, months - there was a discussion here about the notary statement,

"In witness whereof, I hereunto set my hand and official seal."

which appears over the notary signature line on unsworn certificates.

Could someone please point me to the correct message number? My searches aren't bringing up anything useful.
