re: right or wrong you decide?????

I get a call from a SS last Wed: 23rd wanting me to do a signing for tonight at 6 pm 1 1/2 drive 1way, give them my fee $XXX and well, you know the drill, we are only authorized to pay $75.00 and will have to get fee approved and here it is Friday and I haven't heard anything from them. Well low and behold guess who gives me a call at 5:45 pm tonight? Question: can you do a signing for us 6 pm tonight 1 1/2 hour drive 1-way? Answer: Sorry I have other plans and if you would have agreed to my fee last Wed., then you wouldn't be calling all over trying too find someone to cover it for you! Response: Oh you have other plans???????? click!

What do you think would you have taken the closing? (and yes I really did have other plans)

Absolutely not!!! You were right to stand your ground and not let them bully you. They can explain to the lender why it didn't sign. Maybe, someday lenders and titles will realize the middleman is not necessary and will call a qualified, professional NSA directly.

IMO there IS no right or wrong ...

it's a personal issue situation - I wouldn't have done it for $75, especially last minute.

But the real question is could you have canceled your plans and would it have been worth it...sometimes the plans you have need to be honored first..there are some things that just don't play second fiddle to signings.

Could the signing maybe have been put off until tomorrow so you could keep your plans tonight and do the signing tomorrow?

Right or Wrong?

Roger, were they still offering $75.00? If so there is no way I would have done it! Not for the distance and time involved..You made a correct decision. Do not feel bad about saying No!

Re: Right or Wrong?

I wasn't going to accept anything less than what I quoted them on Wednesday and they were not offering anymore or to change the time of the closing....There was no way I was going to do it for $75.00! Now if they would have offered to postpone until tomorrow I might have considered it after they met my fee that is. The person they had lined up canceled on them so they I guess they figured I would do it!

<<<What do you think would you have taken the closing?>>>

I'd take the job ONLY IF:
1. SS met my fee
2. I had free time in my schedule
3. Borrowers were flexible and willing to sign later in the evening

If $75 wasn't enough on Wednesday for 4+ hours of your time plus expenses (and it sure wouldn't have been for me, either!), then it is even less worth it on Friday, EOM, last minute, when you've already made plans! Don't start second-guessing yourself... Wink

Roger did you think you were going to get anyone here to disagree with your decision? For the record; you are not morally bound to fatten the pockets of lowballers, or ethically bound to pull their chestnuts out of the fire on a last minute request. Sometimes the best way for these people to learn is through the experience of having someone turn them down. I wish all NSA’s would do as you did.

Maybe I didn't expect (or shall I say hopeful) that anyone would disagree with me but have came to expect that if they truly believed that I was wrong that they would post their opinion, which I have become to value from my peers here on NR.
