Nations Direct are crazy!

Had a call from them to go to a client and all I needed to do is notarize the last page. They had docs., they would return, just need to notarize for $30. No problem, only 11 miles away. Get confirmation and it says to fax back & fedex.....Well I called and told them I was told to only notarize....they said to disregard the conf. sheet yes just notarize. I've been called 3 times and asked it I dropped docs., faxed...as I tell them all, I was told to only notarize and then preceeded to tell them I accepted the job for $30 due to only having to notarize period. Do they honestly think we would notarize, fax and fedex for that amount? They are crazy or am I?

No Bev, you're not crazy....

they do have notaries who work for those numbers ($75 for e-doc refi...) - and as long as there are notaries to accept these fees then getting ND to bring their rates to acceptable levels is going to be an uphill battle. MHO

The only one who's crazy is the people working for their fees. I've been tricked by other companies (LandAmerica was one). I have 0 tolerance for it. The "red flag" is always the lowball offer in the first place. Unfortunately, like has been said before, as long as someone is willing to accept those fees it will continue. Here's the point that has been repeated many times: This is our business--we set our fees, not them! We also need to be pro-active in our industry & remind them that they fees aren't even close to acceptable.

I always get the name of the scheduler after fees are agreed on. If "they" want to change gears after the fact, I'd tell them, sure, I'll go back and pick up the docs at BO's and complete fax backs and drop the docs, etc but now I'm working in the capacity of an NSA and I'll have to receive a $100 additional fee confirmation and then I'll be happy to do whatever you need.
I can see how one would see ND as being brash and at the very least, unorganized but think of it as an opportunity to maximize your your $$. Add-ons rarely come free in any business.

They called last week, with a GMAC Modification and I said send it. I got home got the acknowledgment and it was for $30, I called her right back and told her to call somebody else, that I couldn't do it for $30. She sent a confirmation theat the Notary canceled.
