Are UPS stores a franchise or are they operated by UPS?
Does anyone know? I was so mad Friday night. I had a closing in the same town as the UPS store. It is located inside a grocery store that is open 24 hours. I arrived at 9pm. They close at 7pm. I thought this would not be a problem since I can go inside the grocery store and drop the docs. No, it was gated and chained and NO drop box inside or out. What's the deal with this?? I was told by the grocery store manager that there are several drop boxes in Walgreens, etc etc. I told him that I am aware of that, but I need these to go out on Sat and the boxes are not picked up on Sat. Only UPS stores are picked up on Sat by 1pm. So, I had to leave and drive back on Sat am in between doing a Bunny breakfast, setting up communion at my church and an Easter egg hunt in the park. I was ticked to say the least. It is also 12 miles from home 1 way. Thanks for the vent. Do other UPS stores around any of you have drop boxes?

At least some of them are franchises. None of the UPS stores near me have drop boxes. Very annoying when you have to make a special trip on Saturday a.m. even though you drove right past after the appointment on Friday evening!

Sharon is correct, some are franchised. I use one near my work and the guy is often very testy, he may be struggling. So I make the trip across town to another store where they offer a more friendly atmosphere.....I'm all about the service

I'm going to call and complain. It probably won't do much good, but if enough of us did, maybe someone would listen.

Do a search using your home zipcode on UPS & FedEx website to find nearby locations & pick up hours.

There are drop boxes in the area that do pick up later than the store's 6:30 cutoff during the week. But for Saturday pickup, need to have it at the store by 1pm.

The point I am trying to make is that I didn't want to drive
back to the UPS store on Sat am for it to go out on Sat. (24 miles round trip) I wanted to drop it Friday night, but there is NO drop box. I know where many, many drop boxes are, but they are not picked up on Sat. It would be Monday before they were picked up. The UPS store is the only place that picks up on Sat and they DON"T have a drop box. Doesn't make any sense to me that these so called UPS stores do not have a drop box.

Linda may I suggest you make the hiring entity aware
of the package drop situation in your area. I live in area that if a signing is completed on a Friday night after 6 p.m., the package is not leaving the mountain until Monday. Unless the package is being sent via air, it needs to be at the location on the mountain before noon, otherwise as I mentioned, it leaves the mountain on Monday. I try to make the client aware of this and I also offer for an added fee, I will make the 45 mile round trip to drive the package to a 24 hour Kinko's. More often then not they decline the addtional fee for me to do this but I do offer. I'm kind of glad they decline but I would still offer, it's a good business practice to provide them with this added service if they want to take advantage of it.

Nope. They are chained and gated during off hours as well.

Mine is in a strip shopping center. I go into the store (they gave me the door code) and I then fold my packge in 1/2 and drop it through the inside gate with a note attached that it's an outgoing package.

I work for a UPS Store here, they are all franchised, no drop boxes outside, you have to come into the store to drop off the package. Package pick up is at the e/o/d.

These are local business folks like you who are running
a small business. To put a box outside their store, would be cutting their own throat. I assume that UPS pays each franchisee a fee to collect their packages for them, and to install a box is taking money out of their pocket. Here in my small town they took all the boxes up and now the "store"is the only drop, okay by me the folks there are very friendly.

A night-drop slot would be nice...
That way, when they open the store on Saturday in the AM they can place your package out for pick-up on Saturday.

I use the Mailbox Store for all my drops...she's installed
a secure night drop slot and it's great...almost all my packages get dropped immediately after closing

I just dropped a pkg at the local UPS store. I asked about
a night drop box. I was told that they get credit for every pkg they scan. I understand that, but it still doesn't make sense. If a pkg is dropped in THEIR drop box, they take them out the next morning and scan them, therefore getting credit. How is this cutting their own throats?? I do not understand. This is such an inconvience for me.
From this point foward, I will tell the hiring entity that they are not going out till Monday unless they want to pay me a little extra to drive the extra miles. Thanks for reminding me of this. Kind of forgotten about that.
Thanks for letting me vent. I'm still peod about it, but have to remember that there are things we can change, things we can't and the wisdom to know the difference.

Re: For what its worth you can always place an online
pick up from UPS and you dont need an account to have the driver come to your house and get the package. Now, I am not sure about additional surcharge fees to the company but that is another option.

That's dependent on your area, Dawn - I can't get pickup
here where I am - I'm also not guaranteed first morning delivery..the only thing UPS or FedEx will guarantee for me is delivery by 4:00 or 5:00 - my UPS and FedEx guys get around here about 5:00 pm

Re: I just dropped a pkg at the local UPS store. I asked about
UPS Stores would not be able to take the packages out of the drop box (liability reasons) and UPS would not allow the store to have a drop box. Yes they all get credit for drop off packages, as the same with Fedex and DHL.
