RE Agent "Signings only run long when a notary does not make a client feel comfortable"

This was a response to a RE Agent in regards to a signing I conducted in her office that took awhile to complete,of course the fact we were waiting on final title docs and didn't have the HUD available???

Making them feel uncomfortable?

I have been to plenty of signings where they have been so lied to that by the time I get there, they are paranoid. Nothing I can do will calm them down.

Also, as a zillion of other SA know: if the guy is an engineer, or the woman is an elementary school teacher, they are going to slowly read every word no matter how many fully pillows you bring into the room to make them comfortable.

And once in a while, you meet a plain old control freak, and you are his victim for the day.

Re: Making them feel uncomfortable?

**if the guy is an engineer, or the woman is an elementary school teacher**

And then there's the occasional wannabe member of the intellectuals, a tag-along in academia who is shunned by his/her peers because of that trait "obnoxious"; and while you are there he/she can barely disdain to allow you to speak much less listen to any words you might offer into the room's musty air.

They write flourishing signatures and silence you while they read...and read...and then they realize that they aren't getting any attention (which they crave) so they start picking the language apart, bully and bluster, and get flustered. So angrily bring on the drama of the signature...sign, sign, sign and then send you on your way.

Notice I said wannabe, real intellectuals enjoy learning by any means...even a notary.

Wait, I think I just described what you said, " plain old control freak, and you are his victim for the day."

Yep. Been with that guy/gal a time or two.

Re: Brenda, that is absolutely the best

Charles is right, it's brilliant! And all the more poignant because I got one of them a few weeks ago, at just the most inconvenient time. Not only a challenge to some clause on each page, but a personal story to go with it. I would ask to frame it too, but with my luck, a tag-along in academia would arrive for his session as I was adjusting the frame. These, fortunately, are few and far between and they eventually leave.

Frame away...

I have been in that house...with both the male and female counterparts.

Those signatures...oh if only I could have them analyzed.

My last purchase took about 20 minutes longer than it should because the 2 real estate brokers couldn't keep their mouth shut. They were talking about non related events... their kids, what they were going to do over th weekend...I should have stopped the closing and asked them to be quiet but I just spoke a little louder hoping they would get the message...which of course they didn't. Their work is done and they have no clue of how rude they are being.

My problem is when they are too comfortable....

Other day what should have been a 20 min closing w/one person turned into 45min of non-stop chatter about everything under the sun. I finally had to tell the guy that I needed to go to another appt & only had 10 min left to sign about half of the pkg. He said he would "put himself on mute" and sure enough I was out within 10 min. Just kicking myself for not doing it about 20 min before but the guy was nice enough & think just a bit lonely. And yes, I know, its my own fault for not taking control from the beginning. yadayada

My favorites...

are the ones who can't chew bubble gum and walk at the same time, or in our world, talk and sign at the same time. Yet they insist on talking.

Re: My favorites...

Adding to my list of favorites: The other evening a four year old boy that insisted on being in Mom's lap at a small kitchen table - with his toy firetruck. He liked to crash the truck into his Mom's hand while she tried to write. So, the closing was stopped for a few moments while I explained that the signature needed to resemble the one on her drivers license. Dad explained that the Notary was probably not going to continue if the boy stayed and so the boy was sent to play video games with his brother. Mom glared at each of us - but finished the task at hand.
