Even good clients will bail on you
Found out one of my better clients (work with for 4 years) has given work to someone else in my area to save $10 per closing.
Schedulers want to give me the work, but they are forced to use the cheapest in the area first. I had made a deal with company a year ago to do all there work (edoc or overnight for one price)
I have not seen anything from them in 2 weeks and reaching the vendor mgr is a PITA.

Today I asked for an additional 25.00 dollars since this signings was like 50 miles above my regular or local driving limit and this was for a regular client that I receive all the signings in my area, but this one was for a Spanish speaking borrower and she told me that she was having problems finding a Spanish speaking notary.
Well they never called back with the "approved fee" I guess they found a cheaper notary.

Everyone is feeling the pressure to reduce expenses
Title companies are fighting to stay afloat financially just like we are.
Even though we have built good relationships, the temptation to save a few dollars is hard to resist, especially if your job depends on the company not just making a profit but being able to stay in business.

Re: Everyone is feeling the pressure to reduce expenses
Yes, everyone is feeling the pressure. That is when I raised my rates. I considered lowering them, but I thought who would I attract? Fax back companies, companies that don't pay, companes that pay slow? I would much prefer less calls at my 'base fee' then dealing with these 'I can offer $85 for a heloc edoc". Personally, I have too much going on right now to even think about leaving the house for less than 125. My TC's know what my fee is and they continue to call because they know what to expect from my services.

Gas here is up $.25/gal in the last 3 months
I've raised my base prices slightly as a result. Hey...my hairdresser told me in January her fees went up, my grocery bill is going up, milk is almost $6.00/gal...all my service people raise their prices on a yearly basis to offset the increase in their overhead and operating costs ... and we pay that increase without question. Gas was the biggest impact on me so I raised my base fee accordingly. MHO

Oh...and I also limited general notary work to my home
county...unless they want to come to me and meet somewhere...general notary work outside my own county is just a financial exercise in futility...IMO
