It Figures-Bad Day--Bad Montth

Got a call last Friday for an E-doc assignment for 5 PM Monday the 24th. I accepted the assignment. This morning (Monday) I received four more calls for four more assignments all taking place within a couple of hours of each other. Two at 3PM and 2 more at 6 PM. Based on my experience with (1) Inconsiderate Lenders (2) End of Month and (3) Receiving E docs on time I turned down the four new assignments because of the first commitment. As it turns out at 4 PM the Title company calls and said the Docs wouldn't be ready until tomorrow and the signing would have to be rescheduled. So I did 0 signings out of 5.

Not smart on your part

"Based on my experience with (1) Inconsiderate Lenders (2) End of Month and (3) Receiving E docs on time I turned down the four new assignments because of the first commitment."

I can't believe you passed up 2 additional signings because you wanted to sit at home and wait for edocs.

I could maybe see passing on the 6 pm one, but passing on a 3:00 because you had something at 5? That makes no sense, if you had to come home and print docs afterwards and be late to the 5 pm signing, so be it. It's their fault for not having docs to you in a timely manner, not your fault for not setting aside your entire day for their one signing. They obviously have no qualms about screwing up our schedules at the last minute, so I'm not gonna worry one bit about having to reschedule things on my end either.

That's an expensive lesson to learn. It's your business, you need to do what's in YOUR best interests, not theirs.

Re: Not smart on your part

To: CaliNotary, I read some of your replies to the different people on this forum today...you have nothing nice to say to anyone. You are just perfect and know it all. It is people like you with all the time to just sit and criticize. Thank God I don't have the time for this, I am just passing through!!! To everyone else, Good luck and don't be so hard on yourself, it will all work out.

You're the chick who read nothing but bad reviews of a company and STILL couldn't decide whether to work for them or not, right? Yeah, I'm crushed that someone of your intellectual capacity thinks poorly of me.

But you done made me see the light, it's gonna be nothing but hugs and encouragement and self esteem building from me from now on. I'm throwing my hat into the air like Mary Tyler Moore as we speak.

Sherry, you'll have to pardon me for the mirth this brings to me but I work in an @$$es to elbows brick and mortar place dealing with mortgage and title stuff all day long. This is the way that we stay sane...by laughing AT ourselves and AT each other. It's not personal, it's just that a good sense of humor and the ability to see yourself as others do will get you through a lot of stressful situations. I provide comic relief each day of my life without meaning to, but glad my co-workers got a chuckle 'cos I sure will laugh when they pull a good one.

You have read the bad press on them here and you still don't want to believe they are bad news. You might as well laugh because it is funny.

Yikes- that is too bad. However- I know that I am going to get it for this one....I book and book and book- and figure out how I am going to make to the appointments later. That is all I can say- if you do not take your pocket book into consideration- no one else will. 9 out of 10 times....I manage to be in 2 places at once- and people are really open to pushing back 15-30 minutes. Most of the time- their LO has set the appointment for them. The TC's I work with- work with my schedule and we ALL work it out!!!!

Why is it that the Notary is not able to determine their schedule? Do you think that LO's do not set up their schedule? That TC's do not tell lenders that they need docs and so on. In any other professional- the person performing the service has some say in the time that they can meet those needs. I am not going to loose business over 15-30 minutes. It has been working for me for over 4 years- and I am keeping on keeping on- despite the backlash that I will face for this. If I turned down jobs, due to scheduling, then I would have no income to pay my bills.

I am sorry!

Cali & CF say it different, but with the same result.

It's YOUR business...period. Work it out as best you can. Start with your confirmation call & see if you have a 'window of time' to get 'er done. I am amazed (well, no, not for many years now) at how often 'the scheduled time' is the worst possible for the B. See how much wiggle room you've got. And don't forget to give TC a 'doc deadline' if necessary. Some agree/some don't, but, I do towards evening as I'm not going down gravel goatpaths in the dark.

I agree with both of them..sort of...

I would have taken one of the 3's and one of the 6's with the proviso that the 6 needs to be later if possible. However, unlike CF, I wouldn't have taken them ALL and risk not being able to do them all....obviously you can't do 2 3's, one 5 and 2 6's - but one, one and one is doable...and your night's not a loss ... I definetely would have taken 2 more. because who knows when the next ones will come? I would have juggled who I could to get another job in there. I hate to loose any job, but who lost in the end, the Notary!

Me too

When I take an assignment for 3:00pm - I do so on the assumption that it MUST be done at 3:00pm (not 2:45, not 3:15). Now, as soon as I can I call the borrower and find out what flexibility there may be. But I always make sure that I can be available at the appointed time until the borrower tells me otherwise.....

I have never passed on a signing because of a previous or

other scheduled signing, people are flexible and most of the time they didnt pick the time in the first place, the scheduler did. We are here to provide a service at the convenience of the borrower but they are anxious to get the documents signed and are almost always willing to be flexible. I have never had a problem moving things around a bit within the designated date.

Kathy are you sure? When my refi's closed, we were always asked what day (due to hubby's erratic work schedule) and time works for us. Usually they say, we'd like to close you on this day, will that work? What time?

I would think that the two 3pm times were what worked for the two separate deals and the same for the 6pm times. I've yet to have a borrower tell me that the scheduler chose such an oddball time that is so far off from what works for them, so can they change the appt from, say 11am to 4:30pm. But you make a good point about the borrowers being flexible and it never hurts to ask.

"I've yet to have a borrower tell me that the scheduler chose such an oddball time that is so far off from what works for them, "

Heck..I've called borrowers to confirm for the "firm time" I was told only to find out (a) they're on vacation for 2 weeks; or (b) property is in FL and they're in another state; or (c) they work all day and won't be home until 4 hours after the appointment!!...All I can say is you're very lucky if this hasn't happened to you. Re: I have!!

I get a mismash - some firm schedules, some just a deadline date, some dates/times that are bad for the borrower. I have a number of borrowers ask to reschedule for a different time (which actually worked better for both of us).
Talking to the borrower directly is the only way you know for sure what time/place the signing will be.
Good luck

Me too!

I can't tell you how many times the borrower didn't want the time scheduled and several who had no idea the signing was even scheduled! However they usually just go ahead and get it done...
I would have taken the 3pm one and asked about changing the 6.

A signing rarely takes more than an hour and provided the

"other" signing scheduled at the same time is within a close range, a phone call to say you are running a little late due to the signing you are currently on is all it takes, people are rarely so inflexible that they cant make the appointment a little bit later if need be. For example, if I have 2 signings scheduled for the same time, I will call both ahead for time and always 1 has had some flexibility of time. Dont be afraid to ask to make a slight change to accomodate more signings. It has always worked for me without a problem.

Appointments.

When I get an edoc appointment, I KNOW things are already going wrong: why else are they waiting until the last minute? So I call the borrowers and say, "they are going to email the docs to me. I know we are supposed to meet at 3:00, but the docs might be late. Plus, I have other appointments. So, please tell me, what is your schedule like for the rest of the day?" I tell them I want to come up with a Plan B, just in case. Usually, they are watching TV all night. If they have somewhere to go, I say I will come back after their evening appointments. Sometimes that's 10:00 at night. So what: they get to do their thing and sign, and I can get everyone else it. Sometimes I tell them, "My boss double booked me, so can we work out another time for tonight?" That old saying, "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush". Email jobs are birds in the bush.
