Land Am and SwiftSend
I received the following email message today from Land Am. How will it be "quicker" if each loan document has to be printed individually instead of the entire loan package? I can't even imagine printing two copies of each document, with legal and letter size interspersed, then manually collating them to create two loan packages!

Important message for all LandAmerica OneStop Signing Agents:
eLynx recently updated the version of SwiftSend Publisher, which LandAmerica uses when creating loan packages we send to you. There will be a few changes for you, a SwiftSend package recipient, with the new version. Following is a brief overview of the changes: 1. SwiftSend packages are sent to you to in a zipped format; you will need to unzip the documents before you can print the package. If you are running a computer with Windows XP, you should automatically have zipped software installed as part of windows. If you do not, please visit http://www.swiftsend.com/unzip/ to download an unzip utility and for instructions to unzip the documents. 2. Because of the new format and how the packages are created, you will need to print each document individually - as opposed to a loan package group - as in the older version. 3. These changes will eliminate any printing problems you may have encountered, i.e. legal pages being cut off, font size shrinking, or garbled text in large packages. This, new and exciting version upgrade will enhance the SwiftSend experience for both the package senders and recipients - making it quicker and easier for everybody. If you are not a registered SwiftSend user, we will be sending you a 'dummy' package in the coming weeks. This will allow you to create an account with SwiftSend and be ready to accept closing assignments from LandAmerica. If you have any difficulty unzipping the document package and printing the documents, you should contact SwiftSend Technical Support at 800.720.0196, Option 3. They are available 24/7 to assist you through this process. Thank you. SwiftSend Technical Support 800.720.0196, Option 3 Strategic Initiatives LandAmerica Lender Services

I also received this message from LandAm. It is really hard to believe that they would expect anyone to "individually" print up to 100 pages - twice! What would that take - maybe 3 hours?!! Hard to believe...I think I (we) may be interpreting this wrongly. (Hope so!). I have used Swiftsend for other TC's and SS's, and the docs were packaged as a whole. Actually very easy to print the entire package in one shot.

Hard to misinterpret it - I don't think you're reading wrong

Pretty clear cut IMO....

Re:3 hours to print? What are you using?
Even if I printed one page at a time on my laser, it would maybe take 1/2 hour to print.

I was thinking the same thing how in the world would they think this was better. After reading the email I was thinking I must be reading it wrong. Im glad to know I wasn't the only one thinking this way. I can't wait to get the dummy package and if it prints the way the email reads I don't even want to think about the increase in fee they would have to add for people to be bothered

I got this email too. Land Am has been a good source of work for me, but they're already tough to get reasonable fees from as it is. I've had to pass on assignments quite a few times because they "couldn't get approval." If they expect us to print docs one by one I guess they'll have an even harder time getting SAs! If they've had problems w/SAs printing docs w/stuff cut off or other problems it's probably because they've gotten what they've paid for. MO

Not that this is much better
But they said "document" not "page." So maybe a mortgage is one document even though it's 16 pages, a note is one document even thought it's three pages, etc. Still, pretty idiotic.

Ahhhh! What a clever concept Al! I've had a couple packages
split up that waybefore (not entirely, but for the most part. Can't recall who sent them). It wouldn't be great; but definitely better than page by miserable page!

Re: Ahhhh! What a clever concept Al! I've had a couple packages
And as a followup to my earlier reply...Yes, Landam OSS was the one "offering" me a whole sum of $135 for 3 loans recently...$85 + $25 + $25.... These were 3 Countrywide investment properties. Needless to say....I said NO-WAY! At an average of 135 total pages....x 3 loans...times 2 copies each...yes, a total of over 800 pages, I said no then. NOW THINK ABOUT PRINTING 800 PAGES A PAGE AT A TIME!!! Would I be given maybe DAYS to print docs such as this assignment under these new guidelines???!!! <BEG>

One of the key problems here, is that LandAm needs a better softwere designer. Most dual paper printers have legal in the bottom tray (tray 3) and letter in the upper tray (tray 2). They designed their swiftsend to override the printer settings, and try to print legal pages from tray 2 and letter from tray 3. If they had just adjusted the software to work with the printer settings, there would not be so many cut off pages!
If we really have to print each doc individually, it's time for LandAm to raise their fees way up.
