Modification

Got offered $20 to drive 20 miles one way to do a modification yesterday. This insult was actually offered by a usually good rate paying title company.

Did they know it was 20 miles? I mostly find that they have no idea...they just go by zip code and don't check further.

I doubt the distance meant little to nothing to them if they could get someone to do it at that price. When told the fee would result in a net loss they seemed unconcerned and moved on.

$20? That's not worth going next door for.

What bugs me is when they say something like, "We are only offering $45 becuase it is a modification with only 10 pages and 1 signature". But when a stack of email docs is double the normal size, they don't double the fee.

And of course then there was the cheap modification that I took becuase I was in the area and slow anyway, but the lady wanted to read it and refused to sign it until she talked to her lawyer. (I left copies with her to read, and when I DID go back, she had shredded the copies after reading them and expected me to bring more copies. Since I didn't bring more copies she almost didn't sign. What an idiot.)

And then there was the one page Grant Deed that they refused to sign. I was stuck there for two hours while they made a bunch of phone calls, and got assurances that the other party would sign the property back, and we had to wait for them to create and fax us the new Grant Deed at the house.

Etc.

It is those deals that when you get burned- you get wise real quick!!!!! I have walked out of 2 mods after 10 minutes of back and forth....they were not gonig to do it....and I was not waiting around any longer than that. Gave them my card- told them to call Lender and call me when they have made their decision.

$20- though- you got to be kidding me!!!

$20 is how much generic notaries get paid for two signatures

Two signatures on one doc. And that's when the signers come to you.
