Reserving My Time to Do No Business

This has been happening to me too often. I get a call for a last minute closing (3-4 hours in advance) and I will commit my time to do the signing. I will confirm the appointment with the customers. Hours go by and no call or docs from the closing company. I follow up with them and they do not even know if the closing will happen. Now I've reserve a time for them and if someone else calls .... how do you handle it?

I've had to deal with this all too often. Here's what I do:

If I get a last-minute call and the person says they're "waiting on docs," I tell them that the appointment is tentative until I receive docs. If I get another call from a different company with docs READY for the same time slot, I accept the new assignment as long as they confirm that the docs are ready RIGHT NOW. Then I call the first company and say, "I'm sorry, but I've received a signing call from another company with e-docs ready."

In short: if it's not one of your reliable regulars, just blow off the first company in favor of the one that's actually ready. Especially during the end-of-month period. I've been jerked around way too many times by clueless Lenders and Title Companies scrambling unsuccessfully to get docs approved at the last possible second. You have to be firm with these people or they'll just walk all over you. My time is money. Just my opinion, of course.

Re: My opinion too Mike

Mike,
That is excellent advise! I too get a lot of last minute phone calls but haven't really had the problem with not getting them and wasting my time but this is a good tip to remember.

I however am to busy to and tired of the last minute phone calls because that tells me that they probably picked me last to call anyways. So lately, I have not been accepting them as I really am busy and not scrambling and stressing to do there job when they should have set this up in advance.

That is my thoughts...

They go to the back of line

If docs don't come in time for the scheduled appointment, I'll be flexible as long as nothing else is scheduled. If I get a call for another appointment, I'm certainly going to take it. Being flexible doesn't mean waiting for half a day and turning down other business. If I get docs, it'll get done after I finish my other appointments.

I agree more with this response

We have to be flexible in our business. I go back after my last appt. and get the loan signed.
If it's the end of the month I think you need to be a team player. What I mean is try to find a way to get the loan signed. I have been signing for 6 years and this works for me.

If the company that hired me wants to get another loan signer than that is fine. but most of the time they say okay particularly EOM.

I have signed plenty of loans at 11pm.
