SS info requested
Has anyone had an SS request a copy of your DL, SS card and commission number? I dont feel comfortable giving a copy of my DL and especially my SS card. This seems odd. Any thoughts?

I come across that a lot, usually only when enrolling in a service though. They also ask for copies of my E&O policy. I give them my SSN when I fax them a W9, the DL is them trying to do a CYA before they hand over extremely private financial info to us. After all, they don't know who we are.
On the flip side, this is a good way for frauds to harvest personal info on us for identity theft, so I use Lifelock.

Re: lifelock is being sued by experian for charging consumer
I'm fully aware that I can contact all three agencies myself and put blocks on my cards, every four months, then request free credit reports, then put a block on the excess junk mail etc. etc.... More than just a letter, and it's just so much easier to have them do it for me, plus they insure the service AND provide me with a lawyer in case something gets by them. Not only that but I can attach my son to it as well.
I doubt Experian would care a wit as to whether or not lifelock is charging fees, there are more and more companies providing this paid service all the time.

DO NOT...repeat...DO NOT give them your SSAN under ANY
circumstances...you should obtain an EIN number (whether you are incorporated etc or not)...NEVER use your SSAN on the W-9 or anywhere....I too have Lifelock and DO NOT give my SSAN to ANYONE...even my MD when they request it. Your drivers license, same thing. They usually will not press for it...BUT if they do, give them a redacted version, i.e. cross out your DOB, Ht, Wt, Hair/Eye Color, DL Number...leaving only your name, your address (if you choose to give it...I have my Post Office box on my DL). Your commission number, I usually don't have a problem, I send them a copy of my commission (public record and all). This is my opinion only, I am not a lawyer but I have seen one played on t.v. I'm just a simple Cantor and Notary Public.

Yes I did, from LSI/LIA (after signing)... & refused!
I wrote on here last week about it. They sent me 26 pages ONE MONTH after the signing to be completed before they would send me payment. The following I feel is important enough to share again.
I wrote them back and told them there was no way I would have accepted the assignment with an additional hours work involved from them and that some of what they are requesting may very well be illegal (in CA at least). So much of those pages had legal mumbo-jumbo I had to read and spend time on and in the end, I refused to send anything except a copy of my business card (though what that has to do with anything is beyond me since I could have printed a fake one on my computer), copy of commission, E & O, bond and W-9 with EFIN number used - their packet stated a SS# must be used for sole-proprietors... bull! And that's only because they also wanted to me sign they would pull my credit report!!!!!!!
I don't want assignments from companies I have to jump through hoops for (we lose $) and I surely don't want them from those who think pulling my credit report is valid, or needing my dl or ss card! There's just no way and I feel sorry for those who think we have to adhere to some companies invasion of privacy.

I personally like the thought of the sound of EFIN.
