Theft of Services

I was a real estate agent in Vermont for many years and often would hear the expression "theft of services". This generally related to skipping out on a hotel bill, driving off without paying for gas, etc. Has anyone heard this before and if there is an attorney reading this post, I would sure like a response. Wouldn't that apply to notaries not being paid for services rendered to these SS;s and or title agencies??

This law will vary per state, you need to check the law in your state. NJ it is a serious crime. If you provide a professional, provide proof you have a confirm (contract of service with fee) then made attempts to get payment and sent a certified letter outlining payment due by or TOS charges will be filed you can go to the police and move forward.

If you follow this course of action then you cannot file a small claims court action for payment, I would rather lose 100-200 dollars at this point just to have a warranted issued.

Some states have much weaker TOS laws and may force a person to either use a third party collection firm or file small claims actions. (both a waste of time and money) if you get 50% of money due you from a collection firm you're lucky and small claims will be a waste of time and money due out of state company and lien issues.
