Vonage

I am looking at cutting costs and getting vonage would be one way.

Does anyone have this phone service and do you like it?

Any comments are welcome.

The only negative I can think of

Is that when your electric or dsl/cable goes out, so does your phone service.
Sometimes in my area of Florida, esp. during the spring and summer, that can
be quite a bit, with all our storms/lightning.

You might want to look at Magicjack

It doesn't offer all the gee whiz features, but it's a lot cheaper.

Re: You might want to look at Magicjack

I've had it for 2 years. No problems except for sending to some fax #s.

Do you use MagicJack, Phillip?

If so, please tell all. I am getting ready to try it.

Re: You might want to look at Magicjack

Since I will not have a landline to use for outbound faxing I need a way to outbound faxing as well.

Don't it take more time to scan documents to e-fax than a regular fax machine?

Magic Jack is pretty cool, and reasonable priced. It will have to see about the prices for internet faxing outbound.

Any one have any other ideas on VOIP?

I use Via Talk as do many call centers in the loan

industry. $120 for two years unlimited calling per line in the US and about $0.02/min to Mexico. One of the features I like is the ability to use two phones per line for outgoing calls, its like having two lines almost. I have been very happy with it, going on a year and half and no problems, I've been adding lines and it works very well for me.

Re: You might want to look at Magicjack

I looked at this and it would be great, but they do not have any Idaho area codes. I have looked at the internet faxing and can to be honest at first thought it would take more time to scan each page and then send it. But now looking at it again I can see where this could be a advantage. If companies say I missed something I can look at the attachments on my computer. I have been using a traditional fax machine. I will have to give this more thought and may decide to go that way.

Thanks everyone for the opinions.

do you get a new phone # w/ magic jack?

And do you know if people can call you from Europe? It seems like a nifty gadget!

Yes you do get another # and you can buy service to call

Europe. What I did was buy a couple and set up service here then forwarded them to friends of mine stationed around the globe. As long as they can get a high speed connection then it's just like making a local phone call to me in Washington. Very nice.
