waiting till 15 minutes before scheduled closing

It is so unfair to the clients of the mortgages for the title companies to "schedule "
a closing and not even call a notary to do the closing until 15 minutes prior to showing up.
There is no way to preview docs, not to mention printing out 2 sets to carry with you in 15 minutes.
Then to want to pay only 75 dollars when the title company on the hud is charging 250-325.00 for the closings.
I can understand a few last minute glitches but for most of the last recent closings seem to be this way.
Is this the same for most others?
Frustrating.........

Not frustrating for me as I control my business and don't allow others to inconvenience me. And that's all the more reason to charge top dollar when they're calling the Notary last minute and extremely close to the appointment time.

For me it's not "what they pay" but what I *charge*. Many times I've turned down jobs because the offers were lowball and not profitable. The least notice I've had was 2 hours, and that included a 30 minute drive to the borrower's home.

Did you ever think

That with such a small window to fill the appointment, that it was NOT what they were willing to pay, bu what YOU were willing to accept. YOU were in the drivers seat and in my opinion, you got and walked:-o

Then in my humble opinion

She should have let them keep right on shopping until they exhausted their fifteen minutes. With such a short time until the appointment, their options are limited, especially with the full time SA dropping out in this state:-)

The line I use

for impossibly last minute signings, signings at an ungodly late or early hour or an extremely long distance, "What are you prepared to bribe me with?" Turn those lemons into lemonade.

Re: The line I use

That's WONDERFUL. I will remember this line for as long as I live. Thank you so much.

I do not give copies at all. If the SS or TC wants that then I let them use the money that they make over my head to do so. They fail to realize that this is our way of living/life. They don't think that we deserve more. I'm a Louisiana Notary and let me tell you we had 483 person take the Statewide Test and only 80 passed and for some people it was their 2nd or 3rd time taking the test! I believe that the office of Notary Public is not respected at all by these SSs or TCs or sometimes even LOs. They always get their 2,000-5,000 (or even more than that) fee. So whats 150-250 less? That I why I will not do a closing for less than 100.00 (non-negotiable). And the people do call especially when they are desperate............................

Tonya. Can you verify what you are saying that you do not

give copies at all? Are you saying you do not make a borrower copy pkg?

Re: Tonya, you may have just cut your nose off to spite your

face -- if you are hired to do an e-doc signing, that consists of making TWO sets of copies - one for BOs to sign and you return, and one for BOs to keep. You have just flat-out admitted that you don't make a copy for the BOs.

Don't be surprised when you phone stops ringing and you have to find a different "way of living/life" as you so put it!

My guess is that if you get a scheduling call 15 minutes before the appointment, it's because the original notary has bailed because the documents weren't ready in time and they had other things to do.

In this case, you have to decide if you are willing to accept the aggravation of a last-minute closing, and at what price.
