A prayer (just a little one)

Got a forest fire 5 miles or so from the house, blue sky out one window, grey smoke out the other... surreal, in my office fine, in my bathroom smells smokey. (I'm in the house typing this still.)

Voluntary evacuation, but just heard a rumor it's going mandatory... I've got a change of clothes and heading out.

My guess is it'll be just fine but they wouln't let me sleep in my own bed tonight anyway.

Like I said, a little prayer would be appreciated, the danger doesn't look grave but only a fool would assume there's no danger.

HUGE prayers coming your way from Santa Barbara, where we have HIGH FIRE DANGER RATINGS today due to above normal winds and dry brush...people have not really begun their weed abatement, since the county deadline is June 30. I started mine last month...been chipping brush and tree limbs for weeks.

Praying that the rain and thunderstorm we just had out here in Riverside county comes your way... We seriously needed that. Had some hail too! Probably won't do much to soak the ground much but it's better than nothing!

There were fires in my area very recently, and there were evacuations. My daughter had to evacuate - she lives very close to me.
It's terrible.

Wow, I grew up right near where you are!

I grew up in Aptos and went to high school in Watsonville. I didn't know there were fires there! Please be safe. I know several people out there as well I will need to contact.

I thought of you and all my buddies back home.. So

grateful I did not buy any of the houses in the canyons 2 years ago...would be gone....

what everyone doesn't realize...not just the trees and brush but so many propane tanks and all in those areas and lots exploding........ so much for all the brave firefighters to deal with...

Checking in... from a coffee shop this time. Radio tells me it's grown to 2,000 acres, but of course there's only one acre that really concerns me.

Meanwhile, I've got a signing tonight, a ton of work and a change of clothes... we'll see.

Gosh you guys in CA and FL, I wish I could send you some of

the rain we've had in the St. Louis area. We're about to drown here. Farmers can't get in the fields at all yet. Corn is supposed to be planted by Mothers Day and here it is almost Memorial Day. Winter wheat is about ruined. Rough farming season ahead.

UPDATE

Well sorta an update, truth is I don't know much...

Evacuation became mandatory at 3pm Dad and neighbor were fighting the fire 100' or so from our house when the sheriff said "now means NOW" The neighbor was able to take all but 2 of his horses, dad couldn't find our German Shepherd.

We don't know if the house burned. We don't know anything. I'm at a hotel near my office 30 miles away, my dad and brother were in the same town this afternoon, they're staying somewhere... no question of safety, just that I had a 7pm signing and we haven't had a chance to talk.

Odds are that I'm now the proud owner of three shirts, and not my favorite shirts... but the news may be much better.

Thanks for all your prayers... the people are all fine... that's God's department.

Hey Gary, if you need anything, please do not hesitate to call on my. I have lots of room, although I'm quite a few miles from you, but as of now, the coast is cool and foggy and no smoke filled atmosphere, so you'd breathe better....

Looks like the fire bombers are flying out of Santa Rosa again today, I hope they get a handle on this fire soon it is reported as 20% contained, hope the wind stops soon.
