Be very careful

I have a Notebook with Vista on it that I'm trying to sell. I listed it on Craigs List, and here is one of the responses I got:
"hello, I want to know if the item is available."
I replied that it is. He then sent this:

"Hey

Thanks for your response to my mail. I hope it is in good condition like it states, I love to come view it but I'm not chanced to do that right now. I'll like you to remove the advert from web and consider this item that its sold, I'll be paying via Certified check. I need your name and Physical Address along with your phone number to issue the payment

I will like you to know that you will not be responsible for shipping i will have my mover come over as soon as you have the check,Pls notice that the payment for the items will be overnight to your address asap VIA UPS SERVICE and i will get back to you with tracking number once my secretary made the payment out to you. i would appreciate that you will help save this for me till the payment arrives to your address and as it will save me some extra cost

***********Please kindly keep others buyer off***********

Regards "

Yea, RIGHT! I replied that while I was sure he was a reputable person, I would be happy to take it off the list if he overnighted CASH. Never heard another word!

You aren't supposed to overnight cash. If you want cash set up a Paypal account.

I have a PayPal account, but those credits can be reversed. If he wanted to send it,
I'll sure spend it!

The first time I advertised on Craigs List,

I got bombarded with these type of emails. So now I put something like cash or credit/debit cards payments via PayPal only. No checks of any kind.

Scam warning

There is a scam out there where you get a certified check for more than the purchase price with instructions to deposit the certified check into your bank and refund the difference back to the buyer with another certified check. Of course after you send them your check it turns out that their certified check was fake! They create these fake checks on their computer but they look so real that it takes a few days for your bank to determine that it is a fake.

The last few times I have advertised on Craigslist I received the same responses, with practically the same verbiage as you received. I did manage to buy a good pick up truck though. The guy had been advertising on Craigslist and got so fed up with the flakes and scammers that I was able to get the truck for about $1400 less than bluebook. I caught him at the right time and paid him with cash. I now have a Ford Escape to sell and I'm wondering if I should even try Craigslist.

When I post things on Craigslist I always put this at the bottom of my posting, haven't received a single e-mail since:

Local cash sales only and I will not ship so all you scammers out there don't waste my time!
