Changing name on notary commission
I am getting married next month and will be changing my last name. Ugh - I did not realize how many things I need to change my name on, one of the first being my commission. I sure was a heck of a lot easier the first time I did this!

Why not keep your business and personal life separate? or hyphenate? (the feminist in me unfolding)

<<<<<Why not keep your business and personal life separate>>>>
I did that in a previous life and found it to be a pain in the tush, so I will just change it to one name for all and make my life a lot easier. And the hyphenating thing just isn't for me.
The name change on the commission isn't that big of a deal, but I will have to order a new stamp. Oh well, he's worth it! : )

I had the same dilema. I live in texas and they don't require you to change your name. I will change when I renew my commission.

I know, BUT... you will be able to watch the nuptials over the internet! The chapel streams the ceremony live! I'll be posting the link in the Leisure forum.

If you own real estate . . .
you might want to change the way the title is vested shortly after the wedding, when you will have recent ID in both names.

Go to the SOS website and download the Name Change form. You will have to get an amended bond. Then when the new commission certificate comes in you'll take it and the amended bond to the County Recorder's to refile your oath and bond under the new name and you have 30 days to do that and get your new stamp. New Certificate of Authorization should come with the new commission certificate with new name.
Your commission number and expiration date will remain the same.

I've already done all of that, everything is ready to go as soon as we make it legal and I get the certified copy of the marriage certificate.
There are just so many things to do!!! I also have to get a whole new pasport since mine is 4 yrs old. That's $75 I didn't need. Oh well, like I said, he's worth it : )
