There were several law changes effective as of January 1. All you need to know is outlined on the SOS Notary Section website. They have put together a summary of what the new laws are and what has changed, which may be easier than trying to find the differences with a new handbook. I DO still recommend you request a new Handbook to have on hand for reference, though.
The most critical changes have to do with required wording changes on certificates. Essential to get that update before doing any more notarizations! Plus, you now need thumbprints for any POA documents. There are a few other things, but if you have any smarts at all, you shouldn't need to take any of the classes the NNA is hyping about the new laws. Although the changes are things we need to know, none of them are that complicated.
