Holiday Business for Loan-Signers

Today is a good opportunity to touch bases with your favorite title, escrow, lender, signing companies and tell them you are available this Memorial Day weekend to do loan signings.

If nothing else it's a good excuse to make contact and "just say hello."

Sure thing, locals in my area should do well this weekend

Already passed up 5 closings for tonight because my wife and I are going to have a nice long weekend holiday weekend.

So locals will get the work I did not take, I did want to do a quick non-closing one but was to late returning the call.

Can't help but wonder

ME, earlier this week you posted to complain that you'd had to pass up $700 worth of work because of childcare issues. You often post about how bad business is, yet you just said "no" to 5 signings?

Re: Can't help but wonder

He should abruptly cancel his weekend plans with his wife instead? Just because business is bad doesn't mean he's at the point of desperation. Not all of us revolve our lives around doing signings.

True, Cali, but...

When someone is known for his frequent posts about lack of work, then announces "to heck with work, I'm going to play," --at EOM to boot-- then he loses credibility with me.

Re: True, Cali, but...

I'd agree with that to a certain point, but I'll give exceptions for holiday weekends. Sometimes getting away from it all for a few days is worth way more than a few hundred bucks.

That is a sharp catch, Linda. Personally, I don't take this weekend off, I wait until after the 31st.

Yes I did lose alot to daycare issues, but family time

Trumps all.. And today was scheduled family weekend. I knew the EOM would be tough I had posted about it a week or so ago.

You are right Mike
Family does come first!!! Even though EOM is always the busiest Bruce and I took our cruises at the end of October (We like to cruise on Halloween).
Family is more important.

Me too Sylvia but I usually use a kachirga (check your

Russian folklore) for the traditional vessel of witches, goblins and wizards. Actually its much more practical that brooms Smile

With out a doubt Mike, family time is the MOST important. Especially if you have young ones. You do what's best for your family what works for others doesn't necessarily work for you. Enjoy!

Well when you go from 6 figures a year and lose 80% of that

Yes even you would cry how bad business is. Being a new dad and handling a bad business, looking for something else and taking care of a newborn is alot of work and I'm sure plenty of folks have done the same over the years but its new to me.

I had already scheduled Fri-Mon off and made plans with the family. Sorry I don't live to sign but would rather enjoy the time with the family.

I knew the money I was risking today, but sometimes its not worth it. I'm glad I still get a decent amount of calls compared to alot of folks in the business.

Enjoy your weekend! You made the right decision. You could be staring at the computer waiting for docs for your 6:00 appt. like me, but you are having fun with your family instead!

I see your point, but...

...I agree with Cali. Family trumps business, or what's a family for?

Mike is no dummy; I'm sure he calculated what the potential loss would be when he made the decision, and family time was more important. Good for him.

Also, on Memorial Day weekend the part of NJ he's in is as bad as my area on Long Island, especially when the weather is as good as it's supposed to be - too many cars, not enough road. I'm not working now because of a back injury, but if I were working I would probably turn down anything other than local jobs this weekend; depending on where you're going, the traffic could double or triple the time you spend.

My phone rang off the hook all day today, and yes, I'm busy every day this weekend...so much for my gardening projects and packing up for remodel...

TERRBLE advice

I'm a day late but telling people to call their clients on the busiest day of the month for routine 'hello' is insane. They are all under TREMENDOUS pressure to get everything processed - including dealing with notaries in the field calling demanding paperwork 2 hours ahead of time or stating they'll walk on the order.
