Question is…what can be done about it?
Don't take the assignments. Problem solved!
It stinks, we all know. This mortgage crisis has affected many, not just you. Companies that previously paid well and like clockwork are going out of business, filing bankruptcy, turning off the lights and slinking away in the night, sinking below the radar, and the consequences are just what you are suffering.
People who used to do 3-6 signings every day are now hoping for that many per month, and then they are hoping that they get paid. Large companies have folded. You must have read or heard on the news that there is a mortgage crisis, followed by record foreclosures, followed by restructuring of the industry.
The best thing you can do: warn others not to be taken in by those who promise riches in a dying field. You bought into the hype, now keep others from being taken, urging them to look beyond the ads, using common sense to decipher the oily sales slick for what it is: something that sounds too good to be true.
Lastly, learn to breathe properly and calm yourself down. Don't advertise your Chicken Little-ness; the sky is not falling. You fell for the wrong thing.
Good luck - I would bet that most here do wish you well in collecting.

Re: One minute lucid, the next incoherently babbling?
I have to ask! Who let the nut out of the shell????
Anyone who reads these boards knows the no-paying, low paying companies. And as for "Jack's" suggestion we ask the borrower for payment!! Hmm I hope he lets us know of the outcome when he tries it. Borrower's do not want to pay twice for their closings.
