A several months ago the "experts" predicted gas to be
over $4.00 by summer, and Memorial Day is pretty much the start of that.
I think everyone in the oil industry is doing a "raindance" to make it happen!

Re: A several months ago the "experts" predicted gas to be
I just paid 3.99 yesterday in Ventura County, CA. I predict it will be up to 4.50 in California by mid summer and will continue to climb.

Of course Wisconsin has the highest gas tax in the union,
32.1 cents + 18.4 cents(federal) per gallon in the badger state. I am not a shill for the gas companies, but the average profit for big oil is 13 cents/gallon and for the station is anywhere from 1 cent to 10 cents/gallon. So it looks like to me that the folks in Madison are way ahead in collecting their 32.1 cents/gallon and they don't have to do any of the dirty work.

Re: Sacramento.....
Anchorage, AK: Gas (87unleaded) is between $3.74 and $3.79 station to station. Milk is 2 gallons for $7 as long as you buy both together. $3.99 a gallon one at a time. Basically, $4. Its not the oil companies sticking it to us, per se.. Its the way oil is offered up for auction (think eBay) and the guy with the most money gets the barrels of oil (think Speculators..) THATS what is driving prices up.. and also the weakening US Dollar.

Milk is already $4/gallon here in SW FL If your predcictions are correct, milk and gas should both be around $6/gallon.

NY has you beat...
We pay about .45/gal in state and local tax, depending on where in the state you gas up. It fluctuates by county; part of it is fixed per gallon, but we also pay state sales tax of anywhere from 8% to 8.625% on the price at the pump. I'm not sure whether that tax is on the price before or after the fixed taxes are added in, but the amount of tax we pay definitely increases as the price of gas increases. Add in the federal tax, and we're over .60/gal in tax - and climbing.

CA is already there!
I live up in the mountains near a lake. Ther are 7 gas stations up here around the lake in different little towns. If you come up from the east the very 1st station is $4.06 for reg, those poor people who stop there and then proceed down the road come across to stations that are at $3.95. $ .12 cents a gallon is a lot when the majority of the customers are pulling in with motorhomes, 90 gallon tanks.

Hawaii is the most expensive in the nation
Gas is $4.25 a gallon today in Maui for the cheapest gas. Well, milk has been around $6 or more a gallon for years now over here. Food and everything really is crazy expensive here. Cost to live in paradise. Gas, though, is a big one. A big consideration when taking signings here. Have to make sure I charge for longer drives.
