Oh, so sorry, LandAm
Got a call from them today with their usual 60.00 signing, 25.00 edocs. I wanted to tell her to get a life but I guess it isn't her fault. WOW. I just can't wait for them to call again. I hate to turn down work for a co. that pays well, but I'm not going to spend money out of my pocket to do a whopping 85.00 signing with 130 pages of docs. Just venting, I guess.

$85.00 edocs was it really far as well?

it appears to me
that you're implying $85 is acceptable if there's not much travel. You're way off base if you think someone can attain a livable wage at that rate.

Last time they called me they wouldn't budge from an offer of $40 + $25 e-docs.

They called me for a 55 dollar e-mail closing because it was a "very small, small ING Heloc". Do they think we are working for beer money? Declined.
I have received a $125 closing from them recently. They will buckle if enough people just say no.

Way to go, guys & gals! Just say No! n/m

Part of the problem could be that there are all too many who ARE working for "beer money"! Most fall by the wayside pretty quickly, but it seems that there are enough new ones coming along to at least keep the flow going... I'd love to see that slow to a trickle some day. It would sure give the whole field a boost -- in image, if nothing else.

Actually the trip was only about 28 miles, but my point is 85.00. Thanks but no thanks. Perhaps when LandAm finally figures out what's going on and they're not getting quality notaries, they just might get it. But then again, maybe not.

This is a HUGE company. They have been lowering their fees for the past 3 or 4 years (not positive - just guessing). When LandAmerica came to PA, THEIR fee in the contract was $150. They reduced it to $65 VERY quickly because notaries everywhere signed up and quoted ridiculously low fees. NASCO paid $125 as their fee. They started lowering their fees again, because they could. The two merged and low ball is where they've settled. I'm certain they have bean counters doing the risk/reward scenario and now that notaries have allowed them to reduce fees, they're not coming up - other than the unique/odd situation here and there.

".. I'd love to see that slow to a trickle some day", you mean newbies right? I sure do wish the same if this is what you mean. These newbies seem to think that $85 bucks is 'good', AND for those reading, IT IS NOT!!!!
I'm down to 5 signings a month, at my lowest fee ever of $125 edocs for ALL signings, which is really just so very pathetic if not sad. If it weren't for my other businesses, I'd have to find alternative work. My notary biz is hurting big time.
If we all keep saying "HELL NO" to these low ball fees, I'm certain that the slump will turn around in our favor.
The question is how long do we hold off? How long do we wait until the market 'bounces' back, 2009, 2010???
Does anyone think we should form some sort of union? Haven't done the search, but I am sure this has been talked about, and if has been talked about to death, then forget I mentioned the whole union thing...

Professionals have associations not Unions. We are not employees.
That being said, there would have to be a very large group and they would have to agree to guidelines.
Now we do not have to belong to an Asso to work.
Do you really thing this will stop the "Just a notaries?"
