Poll--Wireless
I would be interested in knowing how many of you are set up with wireless laptops?; set up for e-sign?; set up for enotarization? I'm having a bit of a hard time knowing what direction to take on this.

No
IMO, I will not go to this expense (& hassle) at any time in the foreseeable future as I completely believe that it will sit unused except for a few times a year--maybe. Not worth it in this rural area that's just loaded with dead zones. YMMV

I heard that Countrywide will be heading toward that direction sometime in Sept....unofficially....but since outside notaries are not an option right now, it may be a moot point there. I'm sure this is the way of the future and I too would be interested from those who have experience with this. Your guidance is much appreciated.

I just spoke to the Maryland SOS today about e-notarizations. The SOS told me that Maryland notaries are not allowed to do them. I'm being told by someone here in another thread that federal law says all states must allow e-notarizations. I think I will go with what my SOS says until someone can show me where in Maryland law it says I can do e-notarizations legally.

It hasn't gone into effect in VA yet, either. I know there are some states (FL, I believe) who are up & running.

Re: Poll--Wireless--Yes
I love the way it lets me be mobile. I love to just be free to go any where and be stuck in the office waiting for something to happen. Verison is my provider. If I get a call to e-sign I am good to go. No Oregon does not allow E-Notarizing either, they say that they will be soon howerver.

Yes
Verizon card, inverter, printer & copier in the car. But I WILL NOT be using this for esigns unless they can up their fee substantially. I've printed 3 packages on the road today allowing me to take 3 more closings than I had scheduled. THAT is what I use my equipment for. NOT for esigns where they want to pay me "less" because it's only a few pages printed out.
I'm relatively busy. I guess if I was slow, I might be singing a different tune.

Yes. I have “newer” a 17” screen Laptop w/Vista and a Sprint wireless card I’ve done 2 e-signings. I used the laptop once, borrower’s computer once. I haven’t used wireless at all. CO has had “e- notarizations” for some time, an E-stamp if you will. This is NOT what someone means when asking about an e-signing.

I have an aircard, but I have not accepted any e-signings so far due to the low fees they've offered me. As for e-notarization, I seriously doubt that will ever be available in Louisiana...we do everything the old school way down here and I don't think that will change anytime soon. I really use the aircard for the other type of work that I do and not so much for notary stuff.

Re: Poll--Wireless-YES
I have done one e-signing but didn't use my laptop. My card is from AT&T. When it was purchased it was for something else entirely. Some counties in PA have e-Notarization but not my home county at the moment.

For Virginia notaries. Before thinking about getting an E-seal from anyone INCLUDING the NNA be forwarned that your E-seal may expire before VA establishes their protocols. I was informed earlier today by the SOC that VA has not yet established criteria for e-notary registration and even though the laws governing e-notarizations will go into affect July 2008 e-notarization will not be allowed at that time. It may be a while. See the SOC notice at www.commonwealth.virginia.gov.
It looks like the NNA sold me a bridge.

Re: Poll--Wireless: Yes
I have the laptop/wireless card/inverter/AIO combo for use on the road and am just now submitting my ENS application.
John raises a good point. I delayed applying for the ENS until I could be reasonably assured that there would be an actual need for this technology. My county has been accepting electronic documents for recording for at least a year now.
As Margaret stated in an earlier post, there are clients out there who are in need of electronic notarizations. I'm hoping to be one of the few who are ready and capable of meeting that need. I would prefer to have a choice of suppliers for the ENS, but for now will deal with the NNA as the only approved source in Florida.
