how much to charge?

How much would you charge to notarize one document for a title company (they made an error), fax it to 2 places and then overnight it (their expense) for a job that is about 10 miles away?

That would depend upon how long it takes me to drive that 10 miles, whether I had to take toll roads, how many pages to print x 2 (a document can be many pages, not just 1), and whether I wanted to make a profit. Time = $$ or $$$. You have to figure your time, your expenses and decide if it is fair to you. The TC will decide then if it is fair to them.

Does $40 for the document signing, $5 for the faxes, $5 for overnight and $10 for travel sound about right?

Why would you break it down like that? Just give em a number and see what they say.

And since you did break it down, $40 to get one document signed and notarized is ridiculously high, and I'm sure far exceeds your state's maximum allowable fee. You're only charging $10 for travel, which accounts for most of the time you're spending on this but you think $40 for a 5 minute doc signing is fair?

If it were me I'd charge $50 and do it at a time where I didn't have to worry about traffic.

If this works for you (I don't know how far you have to travel) then yes. But, give it to them as the final figure, not all broken down. If you think it is troublesome to them, explain that you have now instituted a gas surcharge for everyone - it is becoming a problem for us all. We just don't know what we will be paying. One of the fallacies in cost of gas: it is not what you paid, it is what you are going to pay. To travel today for $7 will be $10 when you go to replace that gas at the pump next. You have to really pay attention to this right now, because once you use your $3 gallon of gas, you will have to replace it with $3.51 per gal. gas (My sticker shock today!). Those $3 days are gone for now.

My $3.51 days have been gone for months

I think the lowest I've seen in the past several weeks has been $3.79, most stations around here are in the $3.90 range

I saw $3.85 in Riverside and there was a long line.

Re: 3.79 in SW FL, scary!

Thanks for the advice! Gas here is 3.63 today. They accepted the $60 with no questions.
