not sure how to get it removed?

What can you do if you find someone has blatantly copied your website wording verbatim?

For what? Was it copyrighted or trademarked?

Everything is copyrighted

Since 1976, everything is copyrighted the moment you write it down, or otherwise make a permanent record of it (tape recording, video, etc.) Putting a copyright notice on it and registering the copyright with with the copyright office enhances your rights, but are not necessary.

Re: Everything is copyrighted

If you really like your web site? Have your attorney (If you don’t have one, now may get a good time to get one. And yes, attorneys are not always useless, sometimes they save you’re a**ets ) contact them asking (telling/threatening) them to cease & desist, or whatever. May be the best $200 you ever spent.

Re: Call/Email them

Tell them what you found and that copying someone's site is not professional behavior. If you don't want to confront them directly, send a letter on your company letterhead.

Make sure you refer to the sections that are direct copies of yours. Look at "View/Page Source" (menubar) and see if your name, business name, creation date, etc., is in the page header. That would prove the page is yours.

Ask them to make changes to reflect their own business instead of yours, to incorporate their own hard work and not yours.

Keep your tone professional and calm. They were counting on not being caught on the vast Web. I would not call it flattery; I would call it laziness.

Re: It happened to me

I just found out late last week that I've been "copied" also. Metro City Realty (Jon Shehan's side of the web site) where there's a link for "Mobile Notary Services". Talk about word for word including my state statute references. He forgot to copy my footnote text so he's got a footnote reference but no footnote. Pretty blatant.
