Equicheck Referral - Did you receive a call yesterday?

I received a phone call yesterday before 12 noon from a woman who introduced herself to me as "Julie". She said she obtained my name and number from a list from EquiCheck. I've peformed some field inspections for this company in the past. She then said, "Is it true that you might be willing to make some extra money just as long as it doesn't interfere with what you're doing now?"

Whenever I hear something like this I immediately think "scam" or "MLM". So I admit my defenses went up immediately.

I asked, Julie. "How can I help you?" She refused to say more until I answered her question about me wanting to make extra money as long as.......". So I said, "I really can't answer that question until you tell me what this entails". I guess I didn't sound warm and friendly and since I wasn't following her instructions, Julie rescinded her offer and told me never mind.

I plan on calling EquiCheck today to find out if they know anything about this Julie. I have her phone number and it's a cell phoe number for Newburgh, NY.

Did anyone here receive a call like this one? The area code is 914.

It could be legit

Prosperity, for all I know it could have been an opportunity but whenever someone is slow to tell me up front about themselves or the business they represent (like many multi-level marketing reps have done to me in the past) I get suspicious. I was also in the middle of writing a report so the interruption did not come at a good time. Now...had she told me she had some documents for me to notarize or a property to inspect I would've jumped at it. I'll let you know what I hear from Equicheck.

Re: It could be legit

Any call that starts out with a question like that is not what I would consider to be a legitimate business opportunity. You don't lead with the money unless you're trying to hide what the crappy real job is.
