MIS update

We again tried to call to rcv payment on a closing from 10-24 and was again put into someones vm. We hung up and called back and requested to speak with a live person. Finally after pulling teeth to talk with someone, Dawn got on the phone. She advised us that their paper work was not rcvd, w-9, sign up sheet ect. We told her that we had our fax log that showed we sent 11 pages of info the day before. Then she proceeded to say that their "legal dept" needs to review the SIGNING AGENT before payment can be sent! They are trying to give us the run around. Been doing this too long, told her our payment better be rcvd within 5 business days or we were going to be filing court papers. I'm so sick of this. Tired of chasing money that is owed. So for any of you that are waiting for payment, I'd start calling and asking for a live person and demand to get paid as well. Good luck!

Yep, gettin tired of chasing money...

I'm a little overdue on funds from one of the more prominent companies here as well. I'll give it a little more time before I get aggressive.

I might want to consider a fee hike just for having to chase the money all the time.

It is all so much easier if you have them print your payment date as well as the amount of your fee on the confirmation. If their other conditions (receipt of completed closing package or review by legal dept) are not printed on the confirmation they can not be used at a later date to legitimately alter the initial terms of payment.

The confirmation is evidence of the terms of the contract. In this case they would be attempting a unilateral modification of the existing contract. It is ineffective if you do not agree to it. However, without the payment date printed on the confirmation ...it becomes a case of he said/she said. In which case payment could be made in any reasonable period of time after the closing. The operative word is "reasonable"...a very slippery term.

My office always insists on having a payment date being printed on the confirmation without exception. We have never been stiffed. We have had several individuals try it, but when confronted with their own respresentaion of the date of payment, they seem to back off immediately.

Which office of MIS is everyone refering to? That would be helpful to the conversation(ss). Also, how about linking them?

Now I'm starting to worry.....I've worked with them for years, and always found them to be one of the best. I'm owed for signings on 10-11, 10-22, 10-23, and 10-29...I was glad to get the business. I did two in Sept, and they paid within 30 days. Scary out there.

Sorry to say Les I think it is going to get a lot more scary in the future. It gives me the chills just thinking about it.

Re: Les CO

Yup! I get little enough work now, and REALLY hate doing this for free. MIS was one of the first title companies to do nationwide "in the home" signings using mobile Notaries. I really hope they don't go belly up. It's hard with a semi-large title company, they have a large overhead, and there is just no business out there. If they don't slash overhead immediately, they get in trouble fast. I see no light in this tunnel.

I got my check as promised. It was at about 45 days. I don't see any reason to panic or assume they're in trouble.

We were told they pay in 30 days. Which is fine. The problem is when everybody keeps calling them and being put into vm every time. Then when we finally able to speak to someone, she just kept coming up with reasons why we hadn't been paid. If a company tells me a certain time frame, then I want it in that time frame. If she told me they paid in 90 days, and I accepted the appt knowing that, then I wouldn't complain or be upset when its just over 30 days. I ask when we will get paid and I expect it then. I'm glad you got paid, and I hope we will too.
