My brother's an idiot

No not my flesh and blood... well him too... but that's a topic for the leisure page.

My brother printer... all-in-one actually. I love it. Performs well, no problem.

But why, please tell me why, anyone would make it switch trays when one runs empty when the other tray is a DIFFERENT SIZE?

What kind of numskull, nincompoop, $@@%-for-brains, propeller headed, pencil-necked geek programmed that???

I mean... really 2 seconds after the beep it starts printing letter docs on legal paper Which besides messing up your docs makes them long enough for the printer to push them out on the floor. How nice.

Oh, I know, you can change the settings and fix it. In fact I already did that once. I had to reload the driver (that's another rant altogether but its a Microsoft rant, another day). Now I'll go find the damn setting and fix it again.

But why, tell me why, default to an automatic change to wrong sized paper.

If Brother were my brother he'd have a bruise the size and shape of my foot right smack dab in the middle of his...

Have a nice day.

Just love your posts, Gary!! They remind me of Maxine <sigh> and speak for many of us.

Calm Down, Gary...

...just think baseball. Imagine the Dodgers have just signed Manny to that 2 year 45 mil contract & suddenly all has become right with the world. No more worries...at least until spring training rolls around!

Great post--ROFL! Speaks to the frustrations we deal with in the tech world. I recently went to a new Dell desktop. All of a sudden my HP printers decided they didn't want to "communicate" & the 1022 caused the spoolers to crash. Went to a Brother printer.
No matter what--these things don't speak the same language. Common sense is out the window, that's for sure.

Here's a nice cup o' cocoa, and a bearclaw. Your question

has been submitted to the Computer Gods, and we look for an answer in real time, sometime soon.

That's funny .....

Just yesterday, I was printing letter size on my brother 5150 and it ran out and stopped until I refilled it. It did not go to the legal tray. Check your setup ....

OK then, try this .....

I did some experimenting,

go into your printer preferences. On the basic page, look at the paper source area. On mine I have it set to : first page = Auto Select
second page = Same as First Page.

If I don't have it set to "Same as First Page", then it will go to default to whatever tray I have the "Other Pages" set to and if it is legal, then it keeps printing on legal when the letter tray runs out. If it's set to "Same As First Page" then it stops when the paper runs out. Check it out. My printers are beginning to get a little dated now, so your preferences may not have the same options as mine.

Re: Love my 4 HP Lasers

I have 4 HP Lasers 2 HP 1300's and 2 HP 3390's, the first HP 1300 I bought brand new and it probably printed close to 1/2 a million pgs. before the roller bar plastic cover shredded, no problem, too expensive to replace so I went on ebay and bought another HP1300 for under $50 with shipping included and it had about 20k printed on it, been great, well worth the money, bought it from one of those recyclers of office equip. anyway, since the one I bought off ebay was so good, I thought for the money, I'll buy another as a backup, so I did, spent another $50 including ship. and got one like brand new with only 10k on it, looked like brand new. My two HP 3390's I bought directly thru HP on sale, they sent me an email 2yrs. ago and these two all in one b&w lasers were b1g1f or two for $700!!!! This was a steal. I love them both, not quite as fast as the 1300, but for the money, they've been fantastic too. I needed new faster scanners/faxes and these were perfect. I know I'm set up for a long time with all this equipement and I know it was an investment, but so well worth it to save from the headaches of one piece of equipment going down and not having a backup. I'm all networked together so I have everything at my fingertips. Two computers connected to 3 Lasers and one all in one inkjet, and my extra HP1300 sits as a backup when My other HP1300 bites the dust eventually. Also I get my HP cartridges on ebay from ImageeX and weshipforadollar./ I've ordered many times from them and everythings been great, I usually order 6 cartridges at a time too, only once did I have an issue with a cart. and they sent me out a new one.
