Question for Wireless Card Users/Techies
What's connection speeds are you realizing? Looking for real world use, not what the carrier states, which my be somewhat inflated. Also, what carriers are you using and what metropolitan area?
For instance, I can consistantly connect using my Sprint mobile phone via bluetooth at 921 kbps in Sacramento, CA in VERY light use and as a last resort.

To make the meaning of the table absolutely clear: A kibibyte (KiB) is 1,024 bytes. A mebibyte (MiB) is 1,024 × 1,024 or 1,048,576 bytes. The figures in the column using 1,024 raised to powers of 1, 2, 3, 4 and so on are in units of bytes.
I am using Verison Air Card.....I am using bytes comming in right now 55,601=kbytes 545.508 I am using going out right now is 2,689,558=kbytes 2626.541
pm me if you are looking for any other information Good luck

Well, it's not really at what speed you are connected, but how fast you can download data. They never seem to be the same thing. Here is a site you can use to measure your download speed.

I can connect through my phone with ATT wireless and it is acceptable in a pinch. Much better than normal dial up, but not as fast as a wireless connection at a hotel or coffee shop. I don't have an air card, but I know people that do and they don't work much better in my area then connecting through the GSM network.

Try this
If I read your posts correctly, you connected your phone via bluetooth? Can you connect your phone to the computer with a cable through the USB port? That might speed things along.

Re: Try this
Thanks Glenn, I've tried thethering via usb. Aside from the hunting for the cord, there was little if any difference in connection speed. I was just curious of the connection speeds with the wireless cards

My Verizon
I use Verizon with a Blackberry tethered to my laptop.
I can't test it now because I'm home which is not in cell range.
It's kinda slow but workable. I even upload pictures with it.
At home I'm on Dish Network's Wildblue (no cable or DSL or cell phone here)... it's a little faster than Verizon but not as fast as it should be for what it costs.
Don't ya love all my precision?
