SOX and Closingplus

I completed closings for the above signing companies on short notice and have not been paid. SOX owes me $75.00 and closingplus $90.00. After numerous contacts and promises of payment from SOX, it has been over 5 months. Closingplus has not responded. Do not know if they are still in business. I have reported both to the BBB.

Re: b4 you get totally slammed and called names did you do a

Yes, it is imperative that you do a search in the company list before accepting any signings. SOX is one of the worst in the industry and it has been that way for years.
I ALWAYS check the list when someone new calls. The list on this site is the best I have found. Also, when anyone has any experience, good or bad, put something in there. I helps us all out!
BBB won't help with SOX unfortunately. There are so many complaints against them it is incredible.
If you are unsure about how to use the listing, ask. It can help prevent losses.

This is just the last six months of comments on SOX. There are tons more! And all 1 star ratings..the lowest you can get.

BBB is a joke and it does nothing to help anybody...

unless the company is actually a member and falls for their line. Not that I'm not all for ethical business dealings, but I found out the hard way that the BBB is entirely useless, especially if the company you're complaining about isn't a member.

Let's put it this way...

I'm sorry to hear that SOX got you. They have the worst reputation in the business.
We can never understand how they are still in business, except that they prey on those who are new or uninformed. Chalk it up to experience & start checking out companies (especially ss) when you take an assignment. Signing Central is a very useful tool and will save you a lot of time & expense. Also, reporting these companies to the BBB is a waste of time.

SOX has a BUNCH recent small claims judgments and case files, too. This is public information from Orange County Superior Court:

In this one, SOX did not show up and the plaintiff won by default. It's still an open judgment:
https://ocapps.occourts.org/SmallClaims/DisplayCase.do?caseNbr=30-2007-00018277-SC-SC-HLH&src=case_src_dtl

In the other one I found, the plaintiff asked for the case to be dismissed. I presume that's because SOX paid up before the court date.

But of real interest is case #30-2008-00050352-SC-SC-HLH, which is still ongoing. SOX is a defendant and lost this case but isn't paying on the judgment so the plaintiff is forcing SOX to come to court on 12/3/08 for an examination of assets. They also added Debbie Vladic as an interested party in the case. If any of you are familiar with small claims cases, you know what that means. It's a court order from the judge to appear and explain why they aren't paying on the judgment. It also means that they have to bring with them a full accounting of their assets for the plaintiff in order to satisfy the judgment. If they don't show up, the judge could (and often will) issue a bench warrant.

And if you're really interested... it's scheduled for:

12/03/2008 AT 08:30:00 AM IN S09 AT HARBOR JUSTICE CENTER - LAGUNA HILLS

This is a public hearing... and the judge would probably tell them to handle it in the hallway, or might not. It depends on the judge. Obviously, you wouldn't be able to participate... but it might be a good time to personally deliver an invoice or summons if you can't find them otherwise. Provided, of course, somebody actually shows up.

And there's there's a non small claims that is also interesting:

07CC07682 in Superior court for "breech of conract":

https://ocapps.occourts.org/CivilPub/DisplayCaseInformation.do?caseNbr=07CC07682&src=case_src_dtl

This company is just riddled with legal issues right now. And that's just in Orange County courts.

No sympathy

for people (even newbs) who know enough to post bad feedback on this site for SOX, but don't have the common sense to do a search on the company before they do work for them.

Here's a tip, accept all jobs even if you don't know who they are. Then, LOOK THEM UP. If they are disreputable, copy the feedback from the forums and email it back to the company, and cancel your services. The feeling you get when these skunks steal your money is not worth the risk.

A little touchy on this one. Some ss are blackballing notaries who participate on this board.
