Verizon vs Sprint
Need your opinion. I'm thinking of changing from Verizon cell to Sprint cause of a phone that verizon doesn't have. Does anyone have Sprint and are they happy with the service???? Thanks everyone.

I had Sprint for over 8 years, loved it for most of that time - changed to Verizon in May because Sprint service had deteriorated so badly. It had gotten to the point where my husband and I weren't even receiving voicemails for up to two days after the call came in -- Be afraid. Be very afraid.
(BTW, we are very happy with Verizon - much better service and options.)

I agree about not getting the voicemails. I don't even get the missed calls for a day or so. When my contract is up in January I am definitely going to switch.

Sprint is notorious for having poor customer service. My daughter has had Verizon for four years and is very satisified.

I had Sprint/Nextel up until 1/08
contract expired and I switched to Alltel - I almost never had a signal out here with Sprint and dropped signal many times (including one time Sprint called me on my cell to get me to extend my contract - dropped the call 3 times!! Proved my case with the sales rep...LOL) Have been very happy with Alltel out here in my area. Have no experience with Verizon

Our contract ends 12-31 and plan on switching to Verizon for many of the same reasons others have.

I'd look somewhere else.
Sprint is losing customers left and right, mostly for poor service issues. I'm with T mobile on a month to month contract. If I need a new phone I buy it of Craig's list from some teen who has to have the newest phone, even though they just bought the newest phone 3 months ago.

Guess I'll be the lone dissenter......
I've had Sprint for 8 years. They've improved the service here especially where I live on the SF coast. While I don't like their customer service which is their overseas call center I've had good experiences with them. I've never had a dropped call except if I was in a fringe area. Overall if I were to rate them on a scale of 1-10 I would give them a high score of 8. So I guess it really depends on where you live and the the local conditions. You might want to check with people in your local area where you plan to use the service.

Agree with John NorCal

Yep. Used to have Verizon.....switched to Sprint because hubby gets a big discount through employer......have not had any problems with Sprint air time or their customer service. I'd rate Sprint a 9.

Not seeing ATT (formerly Cingular) mentioned here, I
have to say that I have had them for over 15yrs. I have service in my area when others don't. I couldn't be happier with the service.

since 1990
began when it was L.A. Cellular, then bought by ATT wireless, then ATT wireless was bought by Cingular (which use to be Pac-tel) who changed the name back to ATT wireless when they bought the Att long distance land line business. Whew!!! .... Never had an issue and because they power the California highway call boxes, I get service in way out places that others usually dont. When I am hiking with friends who have had Verizon or some of the others, they have had to borrow my phone. The only place where I have had some problems lately where someone has had service and I haven't was Lake Powell, about 1/2 way between the Wahweep and Dangling Rope.
If you check their financial statements, you will find that both Sprint and T-Mobile are on life support ......

AT&T
I have been with them for a long time and have been very happy. Every spring I go away with the girls to Berkley Springs, WV and the past two years I had the best service in our group - and I think we had all the major ones covered. I even talked in the elevator with my son who is Iraq. AT&T rocks in my opinion.

I had Sprint while living in California and loved it. It served me well when I traveled to major cities. Upon moving to Northern Alabama, I couldn't use my cell phone indoors except for certain rooms in the house. In addition, depending on what street I was driving on, my phone would suddenly roam. Switched to Verizon - no signal trouble. No roaming.
PS: I like Sprint's phones better myself.

The Verizon/Alltel merger will be completed sometime in December. This will result in Verizon having a lot more towers and very possibly, even better wireless service than many other companies. Also, as stated previously, Sprint as well as a couple of other cell providers are on life support.
